Chapter 50

The morning sun shone through the window, casting a warm golden glow across the room. I yawned and stretched, feeling the tension in my muscles slowly dissipate. I walked over to the window, drew back the heavy curtains, and looked out at the bustling city below.

The city was a mass of people, all rushing about their business. The noise of carriages and the sounds of vendors shouting their wares filled the air. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility as I watched the chaos below. The city seemed so alive.

After a few minutes of taking in the view, I turned away from the window and headed to the bath. I needed to soak my muscles after the long journey. The bath was already filled with steaming hot water, and I breathed in the scent of lavender and jasmine. The aroma filled my nostrils, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me.

I lowered myself into the water, and the heat immediately began to work its magic on my tired muscles. The warmth of the water seeped into my bones, and I felt myself relaxing even further. The water lapped against my skin, soothing my aches and pains. I closed my eyes and let the warmth envelope me, feeling the stress of the training melt away.

I must have dozed off for a few minutes because the next thing I knew, the water had cooled down. I reluctantly climbed out of the tub, feeling more refreshed than I had in days. I wrapped a towel around myself and headed back to my room.

As I walked back to my room, I passed by the dresser and saw my reflection in the mirror. My hair was a mess. I picked up the comb and began to work it through the tangles, pulling it through slowly to avoid any discomfort.

After finishing my hair, I looked for my clothes. I carefully selected a crisp white shirt ensuring that they were free of any wrinkles and a nice pair of brown pants.

As I was getting dressed, there was a knock on the door. I went to answer it. It was Andrew I invited him in and I sat down at my desk

I turned to Andrew and asked, "Any good news?" He looked back at me with a hint of anger, and it seemed something had gone wrong.

"Why did you leave the estate yesterday without me?" he threw files at the desk.

"Whoa, you woke up on the wrong side of the bed," I said as I picked up the file and opened it. "Besides, you are my knight, not my babysitter."

"Master Lucas, I am your knight, and you are a highly wanted individual. Your head is in the crosshairs of one of the most powerful men in the kingdom. I have to stay with you," Andrew said with his eyebrows furrowed.

"You are overreacting, Andrew. I just went to talk with Ezekiel," I continued to flip through the files.

"I am not overreacting. We are in unfamiliar territory. The least you can do is tell me where and when you leave the estate without me," Andrew grunted his displeasure was very noticeable.

"Unfamiliar territory? We are in Silverglade. The chances of me getting killed here are low, even lower since I am Lady Calliope's disciple," I kept reading the file before putting it down and reading another. "But if you want to know, I will tell you where I am going before I leave."

Andrew sighed but calmed himself down. "Do you have any questions about the files?"

"Yeah, how hot is Francis Moonlight?" I asked, the files were about the lower family and the advantages and disadvantages of every potential successor.

Andrew looked at me with confusion and asked, "Why does that matter?"

"Well, if he's good-looking, he is most likely to be liked by the public. After all, pretty privilege is a real thing, and if the women of Silverglade like him, it will get us a plus," I remarked. Francis seemed like the perfect candidate for me to use. He was okay in terms of strength, just slightly above average, a bit of a scaredy-cat, had no major ambitions, and wasn't married - just perfect.

"Um, I would have to ask the bishop," Andrew said while shrugging.

"Don't ask him, I'll see for myself. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder," I continued reading the file. "Oh wow, his family is pretty nice. The village that they inhabit has experienced a bit of a boom, pretty impressive."

"This file mentions everything. The bishop is very thorough. Make sure to give him a bonus as thanks," I licked my finger and kept reading, impressed with Francis.

"Isn't he a bit weak-willed? He might be ripped for usage, but who is to say if somebody else comes and takes him from us?" Andrew voiced a reasonable concern.

"Not going to happen. The somebody you are talking about already has chosen his candidate," I said, opening the file I read before.

"Vince Moonlight, prideful and noble young man, also likes to wear a single glove on his right hand," I said, turning the report to Andrew and pointing at the sentence. "You would think the chancellor would hide his involvement better, but I guess he is getting ahead of himself."

"So what do we do with him?" Andrew looked away from the report.

"Do to him? You monster! You want to kill a kid," I said with a sarcastic tone. "We simply do nothing against him. He is already hurting his chances."

"He does hate commoners, but his talent is better than Francis by a lot," Andrew said with a slight concern.

"Lady Calliope doesn't care about his talent. She cares about her actions. So, all Francis has to do is let his actions speak. The newspapers are state-controlled here, but I am sure we could get some favors if we tried hard enough," I dropped the file and leaned on my chair closing my eyes while allowing the thoughts to take over
