Chapter 48 : Chosen by the Sun

*Lynn*

All of us, now clothed in cloaks and garments we had found along the way, walked through the silent halls, frozen faces peering up at us. The masks that the dead would forever wear were all that remained of Dryden’s army, or at least those who had chosen to stay.

The castle seemed to weep with its loss and, at the same time, rejoice at what it had gained. Things had changed. That much was evident as the dust and cobwebs seemed to melt away, leaving behind the beauty that once was.

We walked outside and stood just before the bridge, the battlefield a sight to behold. Blood coated the ground, the once white snow now crimson. In the places that Druella’s magic had wiped clean of snow, the blood was like a river soaking the ground.

It sickened me to look at it, but I knew it was over and that no more blood would be shed. That was a relief I feared I would never be able to feel.
