“No,” I said as disbelief washed through me. “You must be lying. It can’t be true!”
“It is,” Elva insisted. “If you march into those halls and demand they be freed and handed over to you, you would break a pact made under the Moon Goddess. To do so would forever curse your lands.”
“We aren’t planning to march in there,” Dex urged, coming to my defense. “We are here for more than just to save three women. The people you see around you did not come to save them. They came to save their own families. Dryden’s reach is far and wide. We’re here to see that end.”
“But it’s more than that,” Elva pressed, her green eyes focused on mine. “Lynn is Dryden’s to claim. You cannot mate with her as long as he lives.”
“Don’t worry,” I told her. “That is the first step on my to-do list.”
