Chapter 30 : The Hunted Becomes the Hunter

I felt like my soul was hollowed out with nothing remaining but an empty shell, cold and devoid of life. Clara was my sunshine, my warmth. She held Aldith and me together. She kept us close. Without her, Aldith and I didn’t know how to cope.
Aldith continued her training, furious that she was forced to come back. She had wanted to go on with the others, but it was deemed too dangerous with the other wolf somewhere out there. She barely spoke to me, even at night when she would saunter back into the room.
Her duties as a warrior apprentice often left her too busy for me, leaving me alone most nights. It had become so common that I took to sleeping in Calix’s bedchambers. I didn’t sleep in his bed. In fact, I doubt he knew I was there half the time.
