Chapter 29 : Gambling with Death

*Calix*

It hurt to leave her. It was like leaving the only thing I ever truly cared about my whole life like a piece of me was missing. But it was for the best. At least, that’s what I kept telling myself.

A part of me suspected that I made Lynn stay to protect her. I knew she would stop at nothing to protect her sisters, and it must’ve killed her to stay behind. But I couldn’t bare to lose her too.

Did it make me a horrible person to be willing to sacrifice Aldith and not Lynn? Should I have allowed them both to join us? Or neither?

I knew Lynn had skills equal to her sister. She was the hunter of the family and was since her parents’ deaths. She was the eldest and, therefore, the strongest.

What scared me the most, and what she, herself, wasn't willing to talk about, was her looming birthday. She never told me, but I could see it in her behavior. I had seen it a dozen times over.
