Remember some shop items are only opened to high ranking winners."

And she mentioned ranking Top 3 consecutively for 3 months will gain extra rewards. Meaning if they rank Top 3 for a decent amount of time, the shop will also unlock better stuff. As soon as they realized this, they decided to join. Sure it might waste some precious mediation time. But they can possibly find some rare materials in the shop then, and craft some special things.
