The Second Round: Team Competition (2)

A rain of fire bullets rushed forward to Angus group.

The four students quickly jumped backwards, constantly dodging the fire bullets.

Angus and Nissyen simultaneously performed the primary skills "Water Sphere" and "Multi-Water Sphere" to extinguish fire bullets and reduce the heat in the air. While moving backwards, Dustan tried throwing several fireballs about the size of half meter to the scorpion to test, but all of fire balls was dislodged out by the scorpion with its two huge pincers.

In a moment, the four students gathered at a safe distance from the scorpion, Dustan immediately gave his comment: "Leader, it's not afraid of fire. Its exoskeleton seems very thick, just now my fireballs was all dislodged."

In the past few months at Base Five, though Angus used to have a time studying separately with Eugene, but as a Class Leader, he knew clearly about the strength and improvement of each member in the class in time. In fact, the total time he studied separately with Eugene was just some afternoons. He still participated in the physical strength categories with the class in every morning, also led them in the team competition categories in weekends. Moreover, after having finished the process of fusing the two flames inside him, Angus had returned to the power control lessons with Class K and together with them, practiced using powers in coordinated fight. Therefore, it could be said that the cooperation between him and Class K members not only increased day by day, but also was far better than other Class Leaders and their class.

After listening to Dustan's words, Angus nodded: "Usually species belong to the Arachnida class are afraid of heat and fire, but this Desert Scorpion grows in the desert so it won't be afraid. Its exoskeleton is thick and hard, and it can even use Fire power, so unless you use high-level skills to attack, otherwise, simple Fire skills would not effective, at most it can only cause a little confusion. Water power is not useful as well, because both Nissyen and I use water, we have no one from Ice style, and primary and intermediate skills that use water to attack cannot kill it but only hold it up. Therefore, only Lightning is left."

Nissyen seemed to remember something, contributing more information: "Leader, I once heard my father said that scorpions have many eyes but their vision is very bad. However, their sense of smell and touch are very good, especially the thin fur layer on the head, small legs, and tail. Those help them judge the surrounding situation based on the fluctuations of environment."

With more information from Nissyen, Angus quickly came up with a tactic: "Okay, Dustan used Fire to attack its eyes, make it confused. Nissyen and I will use Water on a large scale, to wet its tactile fur layer and limit its senses, also to enhance the power of Lightning later. Edelina, first use one skill to paralyze it, then another skill to knock out. Remember, be careful, do not let it eliminate you guys."

"Got it Leader!" Dustan, Nissyen and Edelina answered in unison.

After that, Angus rushed forward to the scorpion.

Right after Angus reached the area that the scorpion could sense, the scorpion immediately opened its mouth and plasted out a rain of fire bullets to Angus. At the same time, the scorpion rushed forward to Angus, aiming to use its two pincers to clamp him.

Angus took advantage of his speed to dodge the fire bullets when he approached the scorpion.

"Multi water spheres!"

At the time Angus held out his hand, more than ten water spheres nearly the size of half meter appeared from the air and fell down on the scorpion's body, soaking it wet. The scorpion's reaction stopped a beat, then it suddenly shivered. Immediately, a blast of heat from deep inside its body made the water droplets on its tactile fur from Angus' Water skill quickly evaporate.

Angus frowned. That amount of water was not enough! They needed more water!

"Multi fire balls!"

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Following the loud voice of Dustan, several fireballs in his hand were rushed out to the tiny eyes of the scorpion, but once again, all the fireballs had not even reached the target but were dislodged away by the scorpion. But Dustan was not discouraged. He continued to throw fireballs towards the scorpion's head for the purpose of causing it confused.

Nissyen took the opportunity to secretly come in a near distance, intending to launch a Water skill. He noticed that Angus' basic skill "Multi water spheres" was disarmed by the scorpion, so he wanted to use a mid-level skill. But a mid-level skill needed more internal power than a low-level one, so Nissyen had to spend a lot of time focusing his internal power.

That moment was enough for the scorpion to sense Nissyen's existence. Although it was busy dealing with Dustan's jamming attacks, the scorpion managed to throw its tail towards the standing Nissyen, forcing him to step back to avoid the toxic pointed tip and at the same time unable to concentrate his internal power.

Angus again ordered: "Dustan, keep attacking on its head! Edelina, control the tail! Nissyen, using a basic skill, I'll support you!"

As expected, this time Nissyen needed less time. He concentrated his internal power into his palms and shouted: "Multi water spheres!"

"Great water sphere!" Angus followed shortly after with an intermediate skill.

Following the attacks of Angus and Nissyen, a large amount of water fell on the scorpion's body. Once again, when the tactile fur was soaked, the scorpion's reaction obviously slowed down. It immediately stopped all offensive actions, concentrated internal force in the body in order to evaporate the amount of water on its body.

But this time things were not such easy as before!

The amount of water this time was at least four times greater than the previous attack of Angus. Moreover, this time Angus had his own preparation. Immediately after launching the "Great Water Sphere" skill, one time, he jumped onto the tree branches and then threw himself down. When he was landing down, the military dagger in his hand flashed in the sun.

Greee!!!

The dagger plunged into one of joints on the exoskeleton covering the scorpion's back, causing it to scream out in pain. The pain infuriated the scorpion, flinging him into the air. Angus took advantage of this chance to jump backwards.

In the middle of the empty piece of land, the scorpion struggled continuously. The two pincers were moving wildly on the ground, behind the pointed tail was also crazily wobbled in the air.

At this moment, Edelina appeared from the air, rushing down with her hands glistening with light of Lightning.

"Lightning cluster!"

Among the Lightning basic skills, "Lightning Bolt" was the most basic one, introductory one, so almost all Lightning dragonmen when starting learning power control would take it as the first goal to be achieved. Just like its name, "Lightning Bolt" consisted of only one primary lightning bolt, there may be some secondary lightning rays radiating on the sides of the main one, but generally it was the shape of only one lightning bolt. More internal power used led to larger shape of the lightning bolt, and more attacking power. "Lightning Cluster" was an upgraded version of "Lightning Bolt", which consisted of three to five thick lightning bolts with stronger damage. Although "Lightning Cluster" was a quite powerful skill, its difficulty was not high. That's why this was still a low-level skill.

Following Edelina's attack, five big lightning bolts appeared in her hand and gradually increased its power via the steam in the air from Angus and Nissyen's last attack. Suddenly the lightning caught a "jet" of metal, then all of the lightning power immediately gathered to the dagger and spread throughout the body of the scorpion.

Greeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

This time the scream of the scorpion was even more pitiful than the last.

Boom!

The ground shook after a strong tremor. After a few minutes rolling around in pain, the scorpion finally lay motionless on the ground, apparently it was paralyzed.

"Red lightning!"

Just as what Angus ordered at the beginning, Edelina continued to perform one more attack towards the dagger being stabbed in the scorpion's back, and maintained the lightning until the exoskeleton of the scorpion appeared the cracks.

Again, most of the lightning bolts emitted was white, but the area of light around it was different, thus the Lightning races were differentiated based on this feature. The four main races of Lightning style were Silver, Gold, Sapphire, and Garnet, with grey-white, yellow, blue, and red colors respectively.

"Red Lightning" was a mid-level skill belonging to the Garnet race of the Lightning style. Normally, the lightning bolt of Garnet was white and the area of light around was in red. But when performing "Red Lightning", a Garnet needed to compress a large amount of internal power into the lighting, and then the specific energy belonging to the Garnet race would turn the lightning into red. The advantage of this skill was that its attack power was much stronger than normal lightning, and the downside was that it took time to accumulate and compress internal power, especially to a first-year student as Edelina.

The scorpion had been paralyzed, which gave Edelina enough time to accumulate internal power for "Red Lightning", creating a beautiful finishing shot.

So, group Three of Class K successfully took the flag. Nissyen performed a simple Water skill three times as a signal to inform the other two groups. At the same time, the team One of Class K led by Iris also gave Lightning signal to inform that they had found the flagpole.

Based on the position on the electronic map from the wristwatch, Team One was almost at the Western end of the region, Team Three was at the far East, and Team Two was in between them. Under pressure of time, how to bring the flag to the flagpole in the shortest time was the only problem left for Class K. According to the mission requirement, the one who would hang the flag onto the flagpole by himself/ herself must be Class Leader.

Angus thought for a moment and then he turned to Dustan and Nissyen: "This place was no longer dangerous now, you two stay here for safety. The mission didn't require all members to be at the flagpole, so just I and Edelina are enough."

Dustan and Nissyen simultaneously nodded.

Angus told him again: "But remember, don't let your guard down."

"Roger that, Leader."

Angus and Edelina used the fastest speed to cross the forest towards Team One.

Until now, it could be said that Class K had completed ninety percent of the mission. The rest ten percent was just crossing the forest to meet Team One.

The screens turned to another class.

***

On Class F's side, Drake's flagpole group was lucky to quickly find the flagpole, but the flag group was not so favorable.

The person who led the flag-finding group was a Water-style freshman who owned a special ability of sensing and hunting. Before the competition started, all ten teams were given a sample flag with the same material and design as the real flag so that they could distinguish the real flag from fake flags of traps. That Water-style freshman took advantage of this condition and his sensing ability to quickly find the flag.

But when the group of five students actually arrived at the place, they faced such a difficult challenge with the Desert Scorpion. There were even three members eliminated on the spot. The sensing Water-style student and the remaining student had to try their very best to escape from the scorpion, then hurriedly gave a signal for help.

In fact, it could said that to complete the mission in a short time while maintain number of members as many as possible, each class needed a part of luck.

It was obvious that Class Leader was the best student in most of the classes, in terms of both individual performance and leadership.

The competition intentionally arranged a "flag guard" – Desert Scorpio – with strength at intermediate level, which required the combination of Class Leader and at least three elite students to be able to kill the flag guard and take the flag. Under this arrangement, and time press, if the Class Leader was in the group who first found the flag, then it would be a blessing.

Just like the case of Angus! Of the three small groups of Class K, the group led by Angus was the team first found the flag. Under his direction, the group successfully killed the scorpion and took the flag right at the first fight.

Drake and Class F was not as lucky as Angus and Class F. Without the command of the Class Leader, obviously the flag team had failed at the first time. So now what Drake could do was to get to the position of the flag team, coordinate with them, kill the scorpion, and bring the flag back to his current position.

Leaving two members at the flagpole position, Drake brought along three members, hurriedly crossing the forest to meet flag team.
