Girl in the mirror

Chapter 16| Girl in the mirror

Kimberly heard her doorknob click, the knob turning.

She furrowed her brows, she would have sworn that she locked the door, a few hours ago when Tristan had left.

She winced as she remembered how easily she have forgotten all the questions she was supposed to ask him. Angry, that when she had gotten the chance, she have messed it up and asked him about his damn stupid cloak.

The women before her stared at her, the way they scrutinize her making her consciously fold her legs and stare at her nails like they were the most fascinating thing in the world not knowing how to respond if some people barge into your room and then gape at you for hours.

A breathless girl ran in, she was wearing a similar outfit with them. Hair pinned to the side, pale blue gown over a black frilly shirt and the hat placed on their head would have made her laugh so hard if this was a costume.

"I'm so sorry that I couldn't stop them before they'd barged into your room." Her eyes snapped at the girl who has come in a few seconds ago, "We don't just get to see the creatures we considered myths every day, Humans."

"Oh." She muttered at a loss of what to say, their incredulity even though they have gone a notch too far made sense. She'll probably gape if she had access to stare at a creature, not of her universe.

"I'm Chrystal, your head maid, assigned to you just this morning," she went down on her knee, her abrupt dramatic pose catching Kimberly off guard.

A head maid? The girl that was still on her knees, staring at her expectantly shouldn't be a day more than 23 and somehow she was Lord over the older women behind her.

"My age is just an illusion, mistress. I was made this way to make you comfortable since you'll be around someone your age." Chrystal muttered almost like she had read her mind

Already knowing who had worked this particular idea out, she shook her head and then truly looked at the maid still on the floor.

Blonde hair, that cascaded wildly as she bowed, blue electrifying eyes that had stared at her briefly when she had entered her room flushed, she was beautiful and should be having more out of her life. Not made to slave all the rest of her life. Anger flared in her eyes.

"I promise to serve you, be loyal to you, trust you, and love you." Her forehead touched the ground thrice and the women behind her muttered.

"Aye, Aye."

Kimberly bit the inside of her mouth to stop the hoarse laughter that was about to spill out from her lips at the absurd drama that unfolded in front of her.

"We are here to invite you for dinner." She couldn't believe that four women had come to invite her to eat food.

Deciding to chalk their insanity away and let it be their problem and also the scary thought of what they ate and if she'll find it edible, her legs swung down connecting to the ground.

"Let's go." She whispered standing up.

They both exchanged stares as they gave her a once overlooking horrified.

"You can't go like this, Mistress. You'll be appearing before the Royal family tonight. We're here to make sure you look your best." She gave her clothes a once over wondering what was wrong with them and remembering Tristan's promise, she swore underneath her breath.

So she'll have to wear such outrageous outfits like himself.

Her tummy rumbled reminding her that she couldn't tell them to take their dinner and costumes like wears and shove it down their royal asses.

Groaning, she shrugged. "What do I have to do to look as absurd as possible?"

The fascinated look the maids all exchanged like she was some project that needed to be reconstructed and they were just looking forward to it, made her stare at their outfits amused.

If she could just get her hands on a pair of scissors she just might make something fashionable out of the comic garb they had on. Might being the keyword, she thought with distaste.

"Your bathe has been prepared and into it has been poured all the secret herbs in the kingdom, that refresh, relax aching muscles, and give you a lovely fragrance."

Her toilet door was open and true to her words, she could see a steamy bath prepared that sure had her name on it. Not wanting to worry herself with how fast they've done that and when since she has been staring at them the whole time, she shivered in delight as her body hummed.

Some good ole dipping was what her body needed absolutely but her smile was quickly replaced with confusion at the absurd words that came out of Chrystal's mouth next.

"Strip. I need to bathe you. The hour for the dining approaches us swiftly."

Kimberly couldn't believe the fuss the three women were making over her attire.

After she had pushed the women out of her room, tucking away the incredulous fact that Chrystal had been serious about bathing her, she had entered a compromise with them.

She should be allowed the privacy of the bathroom and they could doll her up without any restraint.

She had the mirror turned away from her, scared to see what they were going to do with her face.

She rolled her eyes at the garters, stockings, and corset in their hands they produced from the closet.

They couldn't be serious she thought but minutes later she already had the absurd materials on, the corset making her doubt she'll be able to take a bite of food without her dress bursting open.

She fell in love with the royal blue gown, Chrystal had in her arms even before she touched the soft silky fabric.

It had a plunging neckline, that made her raise her brow wondering why her gown had some level of sensibility and modern designs on them.

The back of the gown was completely bare and even as she applied the red lipstick, one of the women passed to her, completing her look, she noticed the teary look on the women face as they gaped at her. Intrigued to see what she looked like, she went straight to the mirror stand making it face her.

She gaped at the woman in the mirror, half expecting Prince Tristan to come out and admit this was the reason why he had smirked at her when she had taunted him.

Her mousy brown hair was gone and in its place a cascading blonde, her eyes caught her interest and now, her mouth dropped open, how did her brown eyes turn to the color of the sea, blue.

She touched her strand of hair yanking a little checking if it was a wig but then it didn't come off, her legs wobbled. Hunger forgotten, she took a step backward making the women confused about her sudden change of mood. She'd seemed excited and thrilled.

What appalled her, even more, was not the mysterious change of her hair or eyes but the woman that stared right back at her. She was stunning and looked like she belonged in this geographical location of charades.
