Tax And Law

THIRD PERSON

"Can you believe that bastard, Beel?"

"I can't. The human Princess also deserves that. She tries to tame a demon."

"You still believe that thing, as one of us?"

"What else do you want me to believe, Asmodeus?" The demon leaning lazily on the wall asked. "I also don't have a clue of what that abomination is." He huffed.

"Just don't refer to him as a demon. It disgusts me anytime I try to think he is one of us."

Beel blew out a depressing sigh. "Yeah, whatever." He rolled his eyes.

Ever since the great fall from heaven, Beelzebub has been the most depressing and secretive demon among them. If he is not leaning against the wall and in deep thought, he would be in one of the demon cities, oppressing the life out of the minorities and wreaking havoc.

"Maybe you should take a break out of Hell sometimes Beel. It can help lift your depressing mood."

Beel stared tiredly at Asmodeus and asked,

"Where do you suggest I go on a vacation too, Asmodeus?"

Asmodeus thought for a minute, "Maybe Earth. Just to clear your mind a little. You are the only one amongst us that has not visited that place before."

Beel sighed again, "I'll be okay."

"No, you won't be okay. I can come with you if you want."

Beel shook his head in disapproval. "What's the usefulness? You make yourself happy today with the thought of being sad tomorrow...the day after...and for the rest of your life. It is not worth the effort."

"Oh come on, Beel. Now you're just sounding more pathetic. Of course, it is worth it. One day of your life made you sincerely happy amongst the other gloomy days...It sounds like an achievement. At least one day made you feel different and alive. It's worth it."

Beel looked surprised at what Asmodeus was telling him. He couldn't believe the hope he was feeding him with.

"You think so?"

"I believe so." He smiled, and they made arrangements to visit Earth.

NOWEL

"Your Majesty, the Northern town has started a protest against us," Adranus complained.

"The Northern town?" Illinois asked.

"Yes. The protest has spread and the rebels are attacking innocent minorities and robbing the majorities of their asset."

"Well, that's sad."

"Absolutely. What shall we do Your Majesty?"

Everywhere became silent as they turned to Michael for a solution. He was seated high and powerful on his throne, and I can't believe he came as a slave and ended up becoming the king of a whole country in just two years.

Even the taskmasters couldn't believe it. The one they ruled over and tried to torment now governs over them and his words are the law.

Michael gave them all an uninteresting look. I wish to be anywhere but here was the expression he had on his face.

"What are their reasons for the protest?" Michael questioned.

"They are asking for a reduction in taxes."

Michael sighed. "So?"

"We can't give them that because it is an impossible demand. Their forefathers also paid high taxes, why can't they?"

"And why does this rule demand high taxes?"

The whole courtroom fell silent at Michael's question. They were never expecting the one they made king to be asking why the people are to pay taxes.

"Your Majesty," Marcus began to ease the tension a little, "We don't question the law in our system of ruling. The people are to pay high taxes to the court and His Majesty for a better standard of living. It is what it is."

"Well, If the people have a better standard of living there would be no problem for them to pay their taxes." I raised, and they all turned their heads at me.

I earned a scoff from the White Wizard.

"To every action, there is always an equal or opposite reaction," I added, and Elys rolled his eyes at me. I am not minding him today.

"And what do you mean by that, Your Highness?"

"If you give them a favorable standard of living, there would be no cause for this uprising storm. What am saying here is that you demand high payment of tax from certain people that are struggling to survive and have numerous families to feed...How do you expect them to comply with the law? It's either they respond positively or negatively. In the real sense, we are having a negative reaction from them-"

"Your Highness, the law is the law. They have no right to do that."

"I say we kill them all or enslave them till they learn a valuable lesson that they are to follow the law no matter what."

"This has nothing to do with the law. You are just being greedy and harsh on them." I defended.

"Your Highness, have you taken your time to read the book of law?"

What's that supposed to mean?

"No. Why?"

"Then please be quiet and let His Majesty decide what is just or not. Your Majesty?"

Oh, my eye god! They are using the damn law as an excuse to oppress the innocent. And am I going to allow this? No.

I shifted in my seat to look at Michael. Maybe, I could gain his favor.

"Your Majesty, what do you suggest we do?"

My heartbeat increased at Michael's glares.

"Well, the law is the law. The people should know better to pay their taxes than to cause anarchy, am I right?"

"You are right, Your Majesty. The people must comply with the law and not rebel against it. It's unacceptable."

Michael glanced at me with an irritating look as I tried to gain his sympathy. He frowned as I tried to plead for his mercy with my looks.

"Your Majesty?" Adranus called.

"Then I suggest you silence them for their crimes," Michael said.
