Chapter 13: Tokyo's Trouble Pt. 2

Later that day Shen Yi, Theriault, and Luis all sat around a bunch of papers. There were pictures of the supernatural victims, as well as the human ones.

"Hmm... Completely drained huh?" Theriault said, holding up a picture of a woman who seemed to be around 19 years old, though with her body dead and sprawled on the ground she looked 70.

"What even causes something like that... Arcadians?" Shen Yi asked, looking up at Theriault with an uncomfortable glance.

She knew he was hiding a lot about himself, that much was clear to her. She just couldn't guess what it was. He seemed to know tons about the supernatural world, but she could have sworn she'd never heard of someone like him. He was too powerful to be under the radar.

But that's what he was. No one she had asked had ever heard of someone like Theriault, so he had either barely recieved the key and was just a nerd with a lot of knowledge or...

Shen Yi gulped, she didn't want to think about the other possibility. The possibility she'd been thinking since the Arcadian Cloud had left her shaking on the ground like a child.

"Hah, hell no, Arcadians are brutal by nature, they'd never do silent kills like this, especially in Japan... Not with that guy watching over the country..." Theriault muttered his reply, thinking hard while looking at the pictures.

"In mexico, we had a creature similar to this one..." Luis interjected, looking at the many victims of this creature.

"Oh is that so? Interesting," Theriault said, dropping the picture. "I assume you mean the goat cucker? or is it fucker? Oh no it's sucker, The goat sucker?" Theriault said, his mocking tone not deaf to Luis's ears.

"Mock as you like, El Chupacabra is one of the most dangerous monsters to exist, and I believe Tokyo has it's own... A human sucker."

Theriault looked at Luis like he was an idiot.

"Are you an idiot?" He asked, shaking his head as he sat down on a sofa they had in the room. "A human sucker? Fucking hell."

"Could it be a vampire?" Shen Yi asked, her eyes lighting up imagining a pale buff man with razor sharp fangs.

But she was quickly shot down.

"A vampire? Geez, you're so sheltered," Theriault said, laughing to himself as Luis also joined in.

"What? Why is a human sucker up for debate but a vampire is crazy!" Shen Yi yelled, her face burning as the two laughed at her.

"Ah Shen Yi, how is it possible you were born into the supernatural world and yet know so little... Vampires don't exist, that's just human folktales," Theriault said, still chuckling as he sighed.

"However... If one did exist, I imagine it would be something like this..." Theriault finished, his amusement gone as he looked at the other two, his expression serious. "But that's impossible."

...

Later that day Shen Yi stood in front of Theriault, who yawned and held out his hand. "If you ever want to be a threat to The Arcadians you're going to need to sharpen your skills... Your family is definitely strong don't get me wrong, but they're fodder compared to Arcadians, as we know now..."

Shen Yi frowned at the reminder of her family's shortcomings, holding out her mother's sword. "I'm ready, don't hold back, that's the Shen motto-"

Theriault flashed forward, grabbing the tip of the blade and yanking it down as he punched Shen Yi square in the jaw, sending her toppling down with her sword. "Again, your reaction speed is good, but it's not good enough," Theriault said as Shen Yi stood up shakily, her eyes wide and her heart beginning to beat wildly.

She had barely been able to see Theriault when he had moved... Almost like Cloud.

Shen Yi buried the thought, raising her sword once again. "I was just caught off guard, let's continue," She said bravely, her sword shaking ever so slightly.

"You sure? You seem about ready to give up," Theriault said, eyeing Shen Yi as he circled her slowly, holding eye contact with the girl until…

Shen Yi rushed forward, jumping up and bringing her sword all around and slicing it through the air as she reached Theriault, kicking her leg out just as he blocked the blade.

Theriault grabbed her ankle, slamming her to the ground and grabbing her by the shirt, throwing her up into the ceiling and slamming her down once again.

"You need to understand that they're brutal, more brutal than you can imagine, the only way to beat The Arcadians is to be even more brutal!"

Theriault shook his head, sighing as he looked down at Shen Yi. 'She'll be dead without the year,' He thought, shrugging to himself as he stepped over her.

"Get washed up, we're going to scout tonight and see if anything is weird… I hope I get my cornucopia," Theriault finished his words with another sigh as he left the small room they'd borrowed from the monster group to practice.

Shen Yi sighed as she lay on the ground, her sword next to her.

She didn't know what to believe.

Her emotions had been in shambles since her mother had died right in front of her. She didn't know if she wanted revenge on The Arcadians or if she wanted to hide from them.

She wanted to be able to protect herself, that much was for sure, but she doubted her ability. 'Is it really that easy?' She thought to herself, holding her hand up in front of her.

...

"You know maybe I should have just demanded they give me something else," Theriault said, his eyes closed as the sun shone down on Shen Yi and Him.

"Well it's always the right thing to help people," Shen Yi said, smiling as they walked down the streets of Tokyo.

This was the first adventure she'd had since leaving, and she wanted to enjoy it to the fullest.

"What's that?" She asked pointing at a food vendor. They'd passed several but this one intrigued her.

Theriault scowled, "I don't read Japanese," He said, looking at the stand for a little. "But…" He muttered as his eyes lit up, "I know what that is."

Theriault grabbed Shen Yi, pulling her over to the stand excitedly as he looked at the female vendor.

At first, the vendor said something neither one could understand, but seeing their confusion she smiled and spoke again in English. "Welcome, did you want to buy today?"

"Yes!" Shen Yi said, ignoring Theriault's laughing behind her.

"Hmm, I've never had a girl before, I guess you'll be my first?" The lady said, smiling as she pushed her breasts up and looked at Shen Yi seductively.

Shen Yi blushed. "Oh…" She said quietly, turning away as Theriault fully burst out laughing, following Shen Yi as she walked away hurriedly.

"I hope that gave you a taste of reality, use your brain and stop wanting everything, we're only here so I can get my payment and then we'll go for real…"

Shen Yi looked at Theriault with an embarrassed expression. "What are we even doing? You still haven't told me why you venture all over the world."

Theriault ignored the question as he glanced down, noticing a hand reaching under the end of Shen Yi's skirt.

Theriault grabbed the hand just as it was going to touch Shen Yi, stopping it just before as he looked down at the stranger.

"What are you doing?" He said, his face blank as he looked at the Japanese man looking up at him.

"You… Can see me?" The man asked in horror. Looking up at the pale boy and only seeing a demon.

"Haha… Of course," Theriault said, squeezing harder. His eyes cold as he looked down on the man.

"Let go human," The man said, suddenly growing hostile as it saw that it's scared tactic didn't work.

"You're trying to prick her with your needle huh? I've heard about you spiders… Bite your victims and then hours later they're found with their insides completely turned to mush."

The more Theriault talked the more the man looked worried. "How do you know so much?" It asked, it's eyes changing into black orbs and it's body shaking violently.

"Well… Because you and I are both the same… Monsters," Theriault didn't let the spider monster transform, instead he slashed his hand out, chopping off the monsters head and causing it to burst into black dust.

"Theriault what if people see!?" Shen Yi said, looking around and realizing no one was paying them any attention.

"Normal humans brains are too weak to understand the truth. It's why that stupid Redwell bastard was able to cause such a ruckus in France and no one said anything, you know he killed 34 people before going to the auction? I saw it on the news… Their cause of death was a gas leak, mankind can't explain the unexplaineable, so they ignore it."

Shen Yi looked at the people walking past them, none of them even glancing at them.

"Huh…" She said. She was learning new things everyday. "How… Do you know so much?" She said, bringing up the question the spider monster had asked before it's untimely demise.

Theriault didn't answer, looking to the right of him and locking eyes with the vendor they'd encountered earlier.

The vendor was actually a prostitute, selling herself on the street as you would common jewelry or shoes.

Seeing her stare at him gave Theriault the creeps, and an unsettling feeling rested in his mind.

'Hmm' he thought, turning away and continuing down the street, not looking back as Shen Yi hurried to catch up to his longer strides.
