11.) Dreams Come True. The North Prepares.

An: Pivitol chapter here. We'll see the importance of house Reed. I'll try to add first men abilities to prominent houses. Give me some ideas on that. Houses Reed, Stark, and the ones of Athens(skagos) will be wargs/greenseers. But for others, like the Mormont's, the Umbers, Manderlys, Karstark's, Glovers. All have potential. I just want some input as to who and what should happen to fulfil said potential. People forget, maguc in the north is as old if not older than Valyria. And they also never completely died. I have so many ideas to explain this and the effects it has on the north that weren't shown i the show.

Enjoy.

The North, Winterfell, 128 AC

Karl Reed Pov

Earlier when The Umbers and Reeds were making way through Wintertown.

I and my friend and heir to House Umber Gage made way through Wintertown on our way to the place winter first fell during the Long Night nearly 10,000 years ago.

The first ever King of the North, Brandon The Builder was just a man who loved architecture. He also happened to have a reputation for being clear headed even in the most heated situations. Such renown helped him garner support quickly when he began his takeover of the North and over throwing the petty kings to make their own kingdom.

House Reed was the first house to come to the builders side. Our ability to see through dreams was a well hidden secret that only trusted individuals were told of.

Thanks to the slowly rising influence of the andals Seven who are one, many magic users were sought after and killed. Even in the north.

All because people who can use it are dangerous. Since the end of the age of Heros, which coincided with the end of the first long night, people claim users of magic have dwindled.

Such things simply aren't true. However, those with magical potential either don't practice because they're worried about how people will react, but also they themselves have nobody to teach them.

The Reeds and other houses in Neck never had such issues. Magic wasn't a taboo to be shunned and snuffed out. It was normal. With our close ties to the tree nymphs, we are magical in nature.

The Starks, who Brandon the builders decendents named themselves, came to the neck to end the cruel rule of the Marsh King. Their arrival led to the green dreams my family had telling us the direwolves were the way. My ancestors eagerly jumped at the chance to kneel to direwolves over the wicked king they currently served.

His throne is still within greywater. A magical marvel that we spent centuries purifiing of the dark sacrificial magic imbued in the chair.

After killing the Marsh king and procreating with his daughters, the ability was passed down to House Stark making them truly formidable. With the green sight chance of the Marsh King and the spoils of their first conquest at sea dragon point against the Warg King, the Starks truly established themselves as Kings of Winter.

When certain members of the House bonded to a Direwolf, it was often a sign of both prosperity and destruction. Such beasts bounding themselves to a man is simply foolish most of the time.

However, special people within the Direwolf house are granted this ability. Others can control other animals like ravens, but the Direwolf is the true mark of a Stark.

The current Lord of Winterfell and older brother of my best friend is Cregan Stark. I haven't seen him in a while but rumor has it he has a Direwolf companion of his own.

Such things aren't unexpected. With the tensions of house Targaryen reaching a boiling point and the Old King Viserys' dwindling health, war between dragons is imminent.

Normally, I'd be extremely wary about this. For dragons are not a being to be trifled with.

However, my dreams last night have made me sure of the north's safety. Not just for this war. But for every war after this.

I saw the only thing I know of to be more dangerous than a dragon ridden by the Targaryens. An ice dragon.

The same creature that helped Brandon the builder erect the wall that cuts off the North from the lands of always winter.

I've visited that wall. It's seeped in magic. One to counter the dark influence of the Night King. This is where Harald and myself truly became close. After finding a hidden compartment in castle black that showed the runic encryption. 'Keep out. Destroy. Dead'

Harald told me he'd seen them. The white walkers.

However, the ice dragon helped Brandon push them back. Keeping them at bay. According to Harald, they will return. That's why House Starks words are, 'Winter is coming.'

Harald said it was a reminder from the builder to all his descendants. A warning that he merely delayed the Night King, and it was up to them to destroy it.

Seeing the ice dragon looking at my friend Harald sent chills down my spine. I've been to the iron throne. I've seen the dragon heads the Targaryens use as decroations. As if their most formidable ally was a trophy stag head. Such things never made sense to me. My companion, Sobek, is my truest friend.

I would never display his head like the dragons.

Not only do ice dragons have notoriously bad tempers, but they're 2x bigger than the biggest dragon the Targaryens have ever fielded since the doom took their homeland, Balerion.

And the dragon currently looking at my friend was every bit the size of the black dread. Meaning it's likely only just becoming an adult. A crazy notion. A 200 foot animal with at least double the wingspan, probably more, being in the hands of my friend the one they called the wild wolf is a scary thought alone.

Harald has told m all about his plans. The wilding clans coming south of the wall, a canal that connects the Bite to the Fever River which would allow the north to completely disregard the sisters who have been a thorn in our side for a long time.

He also spoke about runic solutions to make the soil sprout crops in abundance. But he hadn't figured out either of those ambitions before being exiled.

Now, seeing him climb that dragon with glowing white eyes and scales when it roared gave me the idea that he could make it happen.

I look to Gage Umber and decide the talk with lord Cregan I'd already thought would be interesting is going to become even more so.

The North, Valley of Thenn, 128 AC

Harald Pov

Okay, so maybe I was a little ungrateful of having a dragon when first encountering him.

In truth, my favorite thing is to fly. Fafnir is incredibly large, and agile. So making good time to the coast and back is not a hard thing to do.

When reaching the water the first time I decided to try something out. I needed to confirm my suspicions. If they're true then the game of thrones will change forever.

Flashback

After telling my men to follow Torrent, I decided to become better acquainted with flying and maneuvering in the sky. Unlike the Targaryens who've had their dragons for years, I just got mine at 18 years old.

I need to play quite a bit of catch up to become a decent enough rider not to get myself killed should another dragon engage me in combat. Even as fierce as my friend Fafnir is, an Abysmal rider will quickly take away the advantage having such a formidable dragon provides.

One need only look at daemon and caraxes beating Vhagar. Granted, caraxes was said to be fierce, but vhagar was 200ish years old by the time they fought. Her fire alone should've been enough to severely injure caraxes.

Just look at what she did to meleys. Caraxes was not much larger than the Red Queen. But she was decimated by Vhagar.

Therefore, my need to become more than competent at riding a dragon is paramount.

I also have an idea. A need to see what exactly is the difference in a fire dragons breath and an ice dragons.

My answer I get is incredible.

As we reach far enough out at sea that no passers from the coast could see us, I gave the command.

""Мороженое""

What shot out was a mix of Shimo and the Buwilderbeast from how to train your dragons breath.

A straight shimo like ice beam pierced the sea water only to explode outwards into a spikey formation like the bewilder beast. I was absolutely elated. This will help me not only in combat, but also building. The crystals shine a beautiful purplish blue hue. Another shot breaks them into the sea floor to ensure nobody can find it before we make our return.

As we fly back to meet up with my men, My mind is aflame with ideas on how to make the North stronger with the ice dragon. And I think I know how.

End flashback.

——————

Remembering that made me chuckle and Fafnir grumble below me.

It seemed he liked going fast. However, I want all my men to come with me to meet the giants. Going alone is foolish.

Also, with the addition of the cave dwellers to our group, camaraderie is beginning to form between the two factions.

I see a Bright yellow flag wave signaling me Torrent needs to speak with me. I bank around a few times around the group as they all stare open mouthed at Fafnir and I.

I guess I can understand them. I myself have a hard time believing it. Much less others.

I make the long trek towards my men. When I began Fafnir tried to follow me. I chuckle, scratch his head, and speak to him.

"Forgive me friend. But you must stay here. They're scared of you.""

He grumbles in disagreement and I feel his impatience beginning to grow. Not towards me but those taking my attention from him.

I'm quick to calm him, soothing with pats and words.

""I will return Fafnir. You know this. Please. Give me but a moment to see what they want. Soon, we'll go conquer a new home.""

I placated him with the idea of conquering skagos. According to the memories of my dragon he's flown near there but always stays away. There was a sense of danger. However, that was when he was small. He now brims with confidence.

I pat him once more and continue on my way to the group.

As I arrive I see all their faces visibly relax. I can't help but poke fun, ""Ah, forgive me. Did you all wish for Fafnir to accompany me? Are you ready to greet him properly?""

Edris was the first to speak surprisingly. He's usually known for being an observer. One I've always thought was like a cat.

""Please, Harald. Enough of the jokes. Torrent said well arrive at midday to the giants encampment.""

I almost jump like a little kid who got a PS5 for Christmas. I keep my composure and speak in response.

""I understand. Let us not delay any further. I fear for you all should Fafnir not get to conquer skagos soon.""

I began walking off as I finish my sentence. So I don't know exactly how their faces looked. However, I know forsure they all paled. Even if just a bit.

MID-DAY

We reach the enterance with Fafnir and myself being up front. The men are as far away as they can be from the giant frozen dino. I always chuckle at their reactions.

Anyway, the enterance to this place looks beautiful. Far beyond anything I thought possible out here so far from 'civilization.'

However, I'm broken from my thoughts as Fafnir let's put a deep, bone shaking growl that echos off our cavernous surroundings.

In response a voice comes from the darkness, it's deep rumbling quality make it clear it's no man speaking.

""Have you finally come winter dragon?""

AN: Cliffhanger. Sorry guys. Just wanted to leave a little more for next chapter. The basics are there.

This was my favorite chapter to write so far. I love the lore being created in my head with this. Give me time but you should seriously check out the pictures in this chapter. It will be essential in the future northern lore I provide.

Thanks. Hope you all have a good day.
