Chapter 30

I look over at Myriani who's frozen in fear and now I know why. These barbarians are huge and brutish looking. They bear giant axes and swords that are bigger than me. Where did they find the time and materials to make those? It is possible that they stole the weapons from passing travellers, but I've never heard or seen any weapons that large.

The mist coming off the mountain obscures the attackers from my view. I can't even sense their power at all. Ever since I've became a swordswomen, I've been able to sense others energy, but this mist is too thick. Speaking of energy, I sensed a surge in Thoron's, but then it disappeared. By the Goddess I hope that nothing happened to him!

"Why don't we welcome the other one to the mountain?" A voice calls out from the mist, "Show them that they should stay with us."

"Over my dead body!" I unsheathe Artenagon, "I'm not going without a fight!"

"Oooo a feisty one!" Another voice rings out, "I like em feisty!"

"Let's get em boys!"

"Shred them to pieces!

"Splatter their blood all over the mountain!"

"Ye don't belong here!"

Shadows appear through the mist as the men jump down into the pass. This will be a difficult battle. Their isn't much room to move around. I backup against Myriani who's already gotten two swords unsheathed. I hold Artenagon in front of me and wait for the men. Silence grips the air and it's thicker than the mist. All I hear are the advancing steps of the men. At the first sight of one of them, I give out a battle scream and slice the man's head off. He didn't have a chance to see me. Maybe the mist can come in handy.

I fall to the ground as my wrist begins to hurt. I look down and see the bracelet that Myriani gave me is glowing and digging into my skin. What did she give me? My head begins to pound as I try to stand up. My eyes begin to glow a light blue and I then I could see clearly through the mist. There's hundreds of them. Even with our abilities and skills, we can't win this. Dammit Thoron if you can hear my thoughts, we need help! I'm sorry for being such a jerk to you! I know you were tired, I was just upset that I had to kill my teacher! I'm SORRY!

A blast of ice and fire tears through the men. Some fall instantly, but some block the magic with their weapons. Their weapons have magic protection. They can't be destroyed by magic means. Damn if these men fought in the war, they would devastate anyone who would oppose them.

That's when I see through the mist, Thoron's battered body. No wonder his energy dipped so low. He's wounded and... and he won't live much longer. He has to live! I run through the mist at lightning speeds and slash through anyone who is in front of me. He has to live! He has to live! Thoron doesn't notice me and jumps up onto the cliff where more and more barbarians are pouring in. He puts his hands together and creates a tornado made of fire. He launches it towards the barbarians and then falls to one knee. He falls over to the side of the cliff. I run up and catch him in my arms.

"You can't die Thoron!" I cry out, "You can't! I love you!"

"Fate must have something else in store for me." He coughs up clots of blood, "I wish our journey could go further, but it won't."

"Don't say that!" I lean down and kiss him until his breathing stops, "Thoron! THORON!"
