The Hunter's Mate

I grew older knowing supernatural creatures. For example, I could tell a vampire if I see one. It was strange that I was more powerful than any of them. At first, I thought I was one of them but the more I studied about them, the more it gave me reasons to doubt that I was like them. I gave up trying to find the race I belonged to, so I went about my daily life living like humans. But my world began to crumble when I found my mate. He is a warlock of the witch's coven and one of the mermaid hunters. Through him, I started to find who I really am and my purpose on earth.

Blood oath festival

Chapter 28: The blood oath festival.

We walked down the hall and collided with Aaron. He didn't look happy and he was quick to walk past us. His mate drew him back, they looked intently at each other's eyes without saying a word. Cali sighed and hugged him. Were they mind linking?.

She ran her hands at his birthmark behind his neck and he moaned out. I think I'm going crazy watching these witches right now. Moaned in front of...well me.

Cali grabbed me immediately and we started taking another route, a back door from the castle. We disappeared into the quiet dark night and she turned in front of me.

"Aaron said Master G and my mother are back. They're preparing for the festival." My heart skipped and I was dazed for a few minutes. I swear I don't have any heart palpitations.

"My death... is... near Cali." I stuttered out of fear. She grabbed my arms immediately. "Get a hold on yourself, I'm gonna save you, I promise." She let go instantly. "I just need a plan. Look at me, look at me. Elena...uh.."

"Wilson."

"Elena Wilson. The times I've spent with you were memorable, I feel deep down that you're not dangerous as they think. While we get back to the house, avoid the likes of my mother and master G. They'll kill you at sight, even if they see you, don't look intently into their eyes. " She warned strictly while I nodded at intervals.

We walked back in and went through the entrance to the SUV car waiting for us. I had my face covered perfectly and I was happy no one took note of me.

The car stopped in front of a tall building and we walked out. When Cali and I walked into the hall, some people turned up to greet her. I observed one of the girls who slutily blew her gums and chewed recklessly.

Cali, noticing how uncomfortable I was getting with them, dismissed them and we walked ahead to a table at a far end. I noticed the decorations and gave her a thumbs up. "Thanks. That's what I do anyway." Said Cali proudly..

"I'll get you out of here soon. Stay calm. "She mumbled and kissed my right cheek. She stood up and left the table.

Stefan's POV.

"It's time." Aaron whispered into my ear. "Ask him to start," I told him and he walked away.

Few seconds later, the sheriff stepped up to the podium. Everyone settled down and the hall was quiet.

"Good evening, everyone."

"I welcome all of you who have made time to attend this great occasion. As you know, today marks the 61th year of the blood oath festival. We're here to make peace with everyone and we seal with drinks. Happy 61th anniversary everyone."

An enthusiastic applause was heard all over the hall and the sheriff stepped down. "To peace and unity." Dad raised up the silver cup, while everyone followed up. I tried looking for Elena and I was glad to find her in a very secluded place. To think of what would happen to her if dad was to find her. Though he had been looking strangely at me ever since he came back. He hadn't had time to ask me about the mission. Lady Ursula on the other hand had been staring at my mark in a strange way.

Dinner was set and we began eating. Wendy eyed me while sitting beside her mom as we ate. I had begged her not to say a word about my mate at the table. She dropped her spoon and looked at me. "When are you gonna tell your dad and my mom about your mate, Stefan?." I stopped eating and dropped my spoon. I gave her a death glare and turned to dad.

"Did you find your mate, Stefan Brown?." I swallowed a big lump of spit and forced a smile. "Yes. I did."

My dad cleared his throat and began eating again. "Where's she?" asked Lady Ursula. I looked at Cali begging her to cover up. She stared.

"She couldn't make it, Lady Ursula." Cali spoke in. I sighed.

"Why don't we send for a guard to fetch her?." Wendy added in a question and Lady Ursula and dad nodded in agreement.

"Wendy, shut up." Yelled Cali and lady Ursula stopped eating. Oh fuck!. Cali almost blewed this up.

"I mean, this is not the right time to discuss, we'll get to talk about her later." She politely said to her, Wendy was about to say something before dad interrupted.

"Get her to join us now!!." He ordered the guards and turned to Cali. "You do not have to yell at your older sister like that. Apologize." He said in a deep tone, strictly. "Sorry, Wendy." She muttered inaudibly. "Louder."

"I'm sorry, Wendy." She said out loud enough for a table behind us to hear.

I take Wendy forcibly at hand into the bathroom. She pushed me backwards and tried to slap me. I caught her arm and seized it in the air. She forcefully wanted to be released but couldn't.

"The dare of you to think of that. Wendy, what's wrong with you?." I asked, surprised at her recent obnoxious behavior. Wendy always takes my words seriously, she was always there for me, what happened now?.

"The day you broke up with me because of that thing.."

"Ooh, I'm trying..., trying not to lose it with you right now. I've found my mate, why can't you let it go?."

"Because I love you Stefan. I don't wanna lose you, Stef. I'm never letting you go."

"We can't continue the relationship. What you displayed back there was so stupid of you. You're not my best friend, please bring back my best friend."

"I am still me."

"You changed." I snapped, finally she went and turned my back on her. "Talk to me when you get back to your senses."

I walked out of the bathroom.

I found Cali Jeane leaning by the door and I looked at her. "Do it." I said and she nodded and left.
