Chapter 25

Following another five minutes of gaming in his bedroom, he finally wondered what was taking his brother so long. Damian looked down at his cartoonish wristwatch, saw that it was almost one in the afternoon, and decided to search Andrew out in the pool shed, just so he could tell him something like: “Get the lead out of your ass and let’s go.”

The scene inside the pool shed was something Damian would never forget, long into his adulthood. Andrew was seated on the cement floor with his legs slightly spread apart. Inflatable pool toys were to his right. A disc-shaped vacuum for the bottom of the pool and many plastic hoses were in a pile to his left. On his brother’s lap was Andrew’s open Swiss Army pocketknife, which was fresh with blood.
