Chapter 39

Edan winced. “I know, and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that the way it came out. I know what you do is important to you.”

“Apology accepted,” Gideon replied, giving him a brief hug. “Now, someone mentioned food? I feel like I haven’t eaten in forever.”

“None of us have,” Maeve said. “Do you want plain or fancy, local like Cajun and Creole, take-out or eat-in?”

Edan grinned. “All of the above?”

“Get real. Okay, since you’re going to introduce him to my city, let’s start with po’ boys. We can take them down to Woldenberg Park so he can watch the riverboats. Then stop at Café du Monde for beignets before we leave the two of you to your own devices.”

“Translate, please,” Gideon said, so Maeve explained what po’ boys and beignets were. Once she had, everyone decided that was fine with them, so they walked to a small place in the Quarter to get what she said were the best ones in the city. From there, they went to the park to eat, and finally on to du Monde.
