Wanted To Tell You Why

Christian told Lanre how happy he was that she has escaped from K. He told her he was happy and relieved to hear from her after trying to reach her with no avail. Lanre for a moment thought she knew why he could not reach her. She reminded him that he was yet to answer her question about Eno’s whereabouts. Chris told her to text him her location. He told her he would come pick her up. According to him, he did not want to talk over the phone. Lanre texted him her location.

“Was that Christian, Kehinde’s childhood friend?” Ify asked. Lanre asked her if she had a business with Christian. Ify shook her head indicating she does not have any business with him. Lanre told her that there was no need asking if he was the one since they don’t have any business together.

“It is not like it is a taboo for me to ask if it is Christian or not. Besides, why avoid the question. I know it is obviously him. He is the father of your unborn child, right?” Ify asked. Lanre smirked.

“You should have come up straight and asked your actual question. Lanre, between Kehinde and Christian, who is the father of your baby? Is that not your question?” Lanre asked Ify. And without waiting for Ify’s answer, she told her she was not going to give her any answer. And that if she so much wants to know the truth, she should go look for the answer wherever she please.

“Why are you being hostile?” Ify asked.

“Where did your aunt keep my mother?” Lanre asked in return. She did not bother to answer Ify’s question. Ify gritted her teeth. She asked Lanre why she was treating her as though she was the one who was holding her mother hostage.

“By implication of sending the video to me, you are an accomplice. Ify, I will only let you go if you help me save my mother. I never had enemity with you and your aunt until you pushed me first. I was never going to fight you for K. I was silent because I did not want to fight with you. But you f**king told Victory about my ordeal with K. She published it on the class group chat and you still accused me for starting a fight. You always claimed right even when you were wrong”. Lanre said to Ify.

“But you kept ignoring my messages. I wanted to tell you why aunty Ada arranged my marriage with Kehinde’s family. I was really going to call off the engagement as I had promised you. But she stopped me and told me it was for your own good and that I should consider it an act of service to my friend. She said his family would not accept you because of your background. I was going to tell you all these. But the more you kept ignoring me, the more I felt like you did not deserve Kehinde. I felt like you did not deserve my friendship either”. Ify said.
