Patience Against Impatience

Lanre just smiled. She seemed to be smiling a lot lately even though most of them were forced. She told him she would not mind going into politics if the opportunity presents itself. And if she ever does, her goal would be the first seat.

“Presidency?” K asked. She said yes. He laughed.

“Hope you know that Nigerian’s are particular about their women dominating them? They won’t vote you in, no matter how good you are. Even the women would be the first to vote you out. As it is well said, ‘women are the enemies of them own selves’. They would see it as an insult if a woman rules. And most men and women believe women have fish brain and are incapable of making good decisions”. K said to her. She sighed. Then she told him that was indeed a problem.

Lanre asked K if it was okay for her to go for Governorship. K told her that he was not sure. But if she was thinking of holding any sit in the country, then she would better go and do her youth service. Lanre made it known to him she would do that but just not that year. K told her she better do it. Then they both became silent.

After spending 30 minutes in one spot, Lanre began to complain. She felt frustrated that the hold up was not clearing up.

“Why is Lagos like this ehn? Omo, I’m tired! If only I can walk it”. Lanre said pissed. K smiled. She seemed to be amusing him even when she was not saying anything to really amuse him.

“One thing Lagos is definitely going to teach you is patience”. K said. Lanre disagreed. “It doesn’t teach patience. It only grooms frustration, one bore out of impatience”. Lanre said. Then she pointed out towards other cars and danfo in the hold up. She told K that over ninety-nine percent of the drivers held up in the hold up are impatient. The hold up is a result of their impatience. Everyone wants to move at the same pace.

“Even in life it is not so. If everyone moves at the same pace, if everyone equals the other, then war will break out”. Lanre said. K nods his head.

“This hold up will be good for a hot make out session”. K said twisting his lips. Lanre glares at him. She scolds him for saying that after she had just finished saying something reasonable. K told her she was becoming too serious for his liking.

“I mustn’t behave to your liking Kehinde. Besides, I’m not your fiancée and we don’t look alike”. Lanre retorted. K chuckled. He asked her if she was jealous. She shook her head. Then she pointed at the moving vehicles in front of them and told K to move as well.

Lanre laughed at the absurdity of how things work in Lagos. For over thirty minutes they were held up in on the road by what no man could tell the cause. But in just a minute, all vehicles has cleared out and the road was now free again as though there was no hold up.
