He Loves Me!

“Then she should wake up! She should wake up and not give up”. Lanre said. Michael turned to look at Anita. She looked disturbed. Her face looked contorted. He frowned and got close to her. He held her hand. He could feel her holding him back. His heart skipped. He called her name to see if she would respond by opening her eyes.

“She probably does not want to see you. Step out of the way”. Lanre said. Michael asked her if she knew anything about their marriage for she to say such a thing. He clings to Anita.

“Please open your eyes and look at me! And I promise you, there will be no more third party in our marriage. I won’t even accuse you that you are seeing K. I promise!” Michael said. Lanre scoffs. Of all the people he would think Anita was seeing, it was Kehinde that came to his mind. Just then Anita opened her eyes. She immediately closed them because of the light. Her eyes have been closed for days and she would need to adjust to the light.

Lanre smiled. She sat down on a chair and crossed her legs.

“I was told it would work, and it did! It’s such a relief that Anita is awake now. Mr. husband, I should spend the first moment with her before you. I am the reason she’s awake”. Lanre said. Michael didn’t bother with Lanre. He went on his knees pleading for Anita’s forgiveness.

“Ani, I’m so sorry for everything that has happened. I did not intend for things to turn out this way. I’m sorry for bringing Philomena to the house or even going out with her in the first place”. Michael said. Anita tried to look past him. She asked him to call Lanre. He did as she asked. Lanre walked majestically and stood right next to Anita’s hospital bed.

Anita looked at Lanre and gave her a smile. “Thanks!” She muttered. Lanre smiled grinning from ear to ear.

“You should abandon K now, he is not worth it. He is not worth your beauty, your intelligence nor your love. Most especially, he is not worth your time. He is just being stupid and blind. There are so many young men with good looks and huge pocket willing to kill for a woman like you. So forget him”. Anita said.

“And please, show some respect to my husband even if he is a bag of scum”. Anita said yet again. Lanre raked her hair.

“Don’t you think you should call the doctor since your wife is awake? I’m out of here though, I have business to attend to”. Lanre said. Anita pleaded with her to stay for a while. Lanre sighed.

She sat back down while Michael left to go call the doctor. Lanre asked Anita if she was going to forgive Michael’s girlfriend. Anita told her that was what she would do. At least, she won Michael’s love. According to her, the weeks she has spent in the hospital has made her realise Michael loves her and she loves him too.
