The First Evolution!

Humans seemed stupid for leaving this much traces, but in the end, as a previous human my self I knew that our senses weren't that keen, being now a fox was something completely different, almost as if I had two pair of eyes and two noses to make it simple.

Seeing the world and feeling it from this perspective was something, spectacular, as I finally come back from my thoughts I was already near a path that had fresh human footprints, I didn't cross the path to not leave prints, instead, I started to follow the side of the path, hidden in the vegetation.

The camp was a semi-circle of tents around a big wooden tower, many campfires were scattered in the surroundings, I could also see a bunch of wagons with cages on them parked near the tower.

I didn't want to act recklessly so I decided to hide somewhere near and try to assimilate the core my mother gave me, having a little help wouldn't be bad at that point.

The thing I needed the most at that time was to be fast and stealthy, I knew I was still in the start of my development, but the thought that actually manìde me more calmer was 'If they catch me and I fail to free my brothers, at least they won't be alone'.

I was smiling sadly when I came back to me, my hiding was three tocks that formed a sort of small cave on the side of a hill, it was a good and secluded place, there were some signs that other creatures lived there, but I was going to stay for a couple of hours, I took the core out of the storage with my jaws, I was getting used to using them as a grabbing device instead of my missing hands, living in this body for almost two months made me realize that human bodies were actually comfortable in a sort of way.

While it was in my mouth I started to lick the core as my fangs kept it still, the more I was licking it, the more my level started to rise.

The size was still too big to pass from my throat so I kept licking.

Before I could actually swallow it I've gained another level, at that point, my thoughts darted to the fact that my mother was actually very strong, and still managed to die at the hand of those cultivators, a feeling of hopelessness and sadness enveloped me.

Even if my levels were growing I was still a common fox, which meant that I was a joke to a normal skilled human, let's forget these hunters, which most probably were all cultivators.

Once the core completely dissolved in my belly I felt that I was at the peak of the 7th level.

'Damn, just how strong was my mother? No okay, it's probably me, I'm just too weak right now after this ends I shall focus on becoming stronger' i thought as I selected the evolutions menu that appeared like an option in the display

'Even if I need agility right now, it seems a waste with no further evolutions...' Scrolling the panel some time I found another good option

A fox whose majestic fur is made from a metal-like substance, Two additional evolutions

(+25 stat points in Defense, +10 strength)

But after giving it more thoughts I went further in the list deeming it not worth it

-]Leaf Fox

The leaf fox is one of the rare soul beasts that doesn't enjoy hunting and has a plant-based diet, Has 3 more evolutions in its evolution chart

Requirement: Never killed any creature since birth

(+25 agility, + 5 strength, +5 defense)

'Hmm... reminds me of a creature in a game... well since I don't have better options...' There were other options and at first, those were the ones that everybody would have chosen, high stats buff, some even had some new skill with them, but the one that intrigued me the most was the possibility of evolution, I knew, as a person who has studied biology in my previous life, that the creature that evolves and adapts has the higher chance of survival.

Yeah, at the moment I felt like a coward, avoiding risks at every corner, but if I wanted to have a chance in the future to become more powerful while doing it quickly I had to evolve and adapt, that was the reason behind my choice.

As soon as I was about to select the evolution in the Leaf Fox, I decided to open one last time my current status

'Okay...so, I have to put the stats point now, I'm not sure if they will disappear if I evolve...' So in the end I choose to put 5 stat points in defense, 7 in strength, and 1 in agility leaving behind on stat point to try the system evolution.

I then selected the evolution panel, after that, I entered further the small cave and once I felt that I was hidden enough I selected the Leaf Fox evolution, it was then that a strange panel appeared in front of me.

Then some sort of vines started to come out of the ground wrapping my body, while the vines interlocked with my limbs I started to feel a sharp pain, all of the vines were entering my skin and like roots the spread right under my fur, due to the enormous pain I felt fainted almost instantly.

Once I started to open my eyes I saw that I was in a strange and warm liquid, all around me there was a bloom-like basin made out of, probably, some kind of vegetation...

I felt that my body was itchy and the liquid I was immersed in had, kind of gross if you ask me, all my fur, but not just the fur, I saw even pieces of skin and a lot of gooey stuff.

I jumped out as soon as I could and the thing I saw first was my paw, my fur now was white where I could see it, and if I may add, I was dying to see the rest of my body, there was barely any light out so I jolted in the direction of a stream of water, I could almost instantly feel the difference between my speed if before I wasn't even able to keep up with my brothers, I could now run as fast as an adult cat, which for what I could remember was slightly faster than a dog and the ting that hyped me the most was that I didn't feel tired at all.

I was shocked, my reflex in the water, I was... stunning, a fluffy white fur covered most of my body, my tail was sparkled with strands of pastel green fur, and my eyes... they were purple, but not just any purple... a bright and mysterious purple, I wasn't sure on how to react but my jaw dropped almost instantly.

Under the light of the sunset, my fur shined in a dim light that made the atmosphere almost magical, but other than that nothing changed, which means I still was a small pup, I sighed, it wasn't the time for me to lose grip of my focus.

I yipped in a very low way and opened the status panel as the sun was slowly falling behind a mountain and in the opposite direction, the moon was rising.
