Chapter 48

The rest of the students appeared shocked when Cassandra announced to everyone, "Adair Fox has allowed you access to this floor's automated voice translation functions." She wasn't quite sure why these students were so shocked, though, since she was pretty sure that they all came from the top of their respective societies and had similar measures in place for translation between languages.

The only thing that she could think of was that Anahel and, therefore, this house was an entity that even the big five empires respected or feared; therefore, owning a floor or at least having slight authority over it was something special. She honestly had no idea, though, and maybe there was some other reason why the other seven students appeared shocked when they heard Cassandra.

When Adair noticed that all the students had calmed down a bit which only took a few moments, she introduced herself again, saying, "Hello everyone, My name is Adair Fox, I am from the Ottoman Empire on planet Istea, and I have no element."

This last statement also created a bit of disarray with the other students, but they quickly calmed themselves down. The teacher had no reaction to any of this, though, and after Adair had finished her introduction, he instructed the elven twins to introduce themselves next.

The twin on the left said that her name was Iris and the other one then chipped in that her name was Ivy. They then said in unison that they were from the Eglarest Kingdom, and their element was Nature. For some reason they didnt announce which planet they were from unlike Adair, but she quickly realized that maybe there was a political reason why they were not saying the planet they were from. Or maybe it was implied which planet they were from based on the kingdom they were from.

The teacher then asked the boy who entered through the black portal to go next. His voice was a lot more scruffy than Adair anticipated, and he introduced himself as Jarek from Notilon Empire and that his element was Metal.

The silver-haired boy was next, and he introduced himself as Eion. He said he was from the Oracle empire, and his element was psychic. He said all of this in a tone that expressed how shy and uncomfortable he was.

The next person to introduce themselves was a blonde-haired girl called Scarlett, who said she was from the Burning Empire and that her element was the fire. The thing that stood out to Adair when Scarlett was how confident she sounded when she spoke. So much so it almost seemed unnatural for her when she was so young.

The next person to introduce themselves was an icy blue-haired boy who introduced himself as Crispin. He said he was from the Joltenheim Domain. And that his element was Water. This person looked pretty normal except for his icy blue hair, which she wondered if it was natural or if it was dead that color.

Lastly, the kid that arrived last was the last to introduce herself. She introduced herself as Jennifer; she was from the Galactic Union. And that her element was gravity. Adair did not know how an element like gravity would work because her perception of gravity was that it was something that everything had. It was proportionate to its size. So would she be creating mini black holes to change the flow of gravity? Or would it be more akin to someone using the force like in light wars IXXX.

One thing Adair did notice, though, is that the majority of the other students had a slightly disapproving look towards Jennifer while she was introducing herself, and she guessed that this was because of some political reason since she assumed that the Galactic Union was a major rival to the big five, but she really had no idea.

She then decided that it would probably be greatly beneficial if she could befriend at least one of these students more if possible because if she was able to, then she would be able to learn a lot more about the galaxy that she was in.

Moments after everyone had introduced themselves, Virtuoso Harry Willard said, "thank you, everyone, for introducing themselves. Since this is the first day of class, all you will be doing today is taking a test to allow me to see how much you already know about Alchemy. He then sent seven papers flying through the air, one to each person.

After a brief glance over the test, it did appear that she was correct and that this was extremely similar to a chemistry class. She was able to realize this because the very first page of the test had a blank periodic table on it, and it appeared that the test wanted her to fill it in.

There were many problems, though, that soon came up. The first one was that she had no idea how to fill out the questions since no writing utensil was given to her. So she looked up and around to see what the other students were doing, and she noticed that they were all using their fingers to write on the test to answer the questions.

The only problem was that the periodic table was at least three times bigger than the periodic table that she had learned back in the Galactic Empire. The second problem occurred after she filled out over half the sections of the periodic table that she had remembered back from the galactic empire. She realized that the elements that she knew, such as gold and silver, did not have the same acronyms here as they did back then.

Anyways she filled out everything that she had remembered and moved on to the next section, but it was all in a different language which she could not yet understand but was the same language that was on the projector screen and on the flashcards.

And it appeared that all the questions were essay questions which were problematic since if they were fill in the blank, at least she could have guessed, but unfortunately, that was not the case, and she had no idea how to answer the questions, so she decided to turn in a mostly blank test.

She contemplated on waiting for all of the other students to turn in the test and fake answering the questions to make it seem like she kind of knew the questions being asked, but she figured that it would probably be better to just get it over and turn it in early.

She also thought that maybe turning it in so early would make her seem smarter than the rest of them since she was able to "complete" the test so quickly. So she thought about it a bit and decided to turn it in just after five minutes had passed since the test was handed out.

So just around five minutes in, she decided to get up from her desk and head up to the teacher and turn in the test. All of the students saw her do this and stared at her for a moment before going back to their own tests.

She soon realized that maybe she had made a grave mistake, though since it took the rest of the students two to three hours to complete the rest of the exam. Because since she turned it in so early, they had to assume that she didn't complete the test, right?

Well, she hoped not, but the situation was kind of out of her hands now, and the other students could believe what they wanted to believe. Once the last test was turned in, the teacher then said to everyone that they had thirty minutes before class ended and were forced to leave Anahel's Sanctuary.

As the first time that Adair heard the name of where she lived, she became interested in how it got its name. Before she had time to contemplate though how it got its name, Jennifer came up to her and personally introduced herself, saying, "Hello, Adair. I would like to introduce myself personally. My name is Jennifer Finley, and as you heard earlier, I am from the Galactic Union."

She then went on to say, "I approached you first before any of those kids could bias you against the organization I am from and me." When Jennifer said, this Adair's thoughts that there must be a political battle between the big five and the Galactic Union had to be true.

The next thing that Adair thought was that it was kind of messed up to involve someone so young into their scheme. The oldest Jennifer could be was eight based on Adair's estimations, but she was more likely around her age of 4-5, and it just seemed cruel to Adair to have someone so young fighting something they had no right fighting at such a young age.

Jennifer then said, "Let me tell you a bit about the organization I represent so that you know the truth about the matter and not the lies that the other students will tell you." Before Jennifer could go any further, though, Adair said, "Jennifer, while I am sure you support a great cause, I am not interested in getting between any matter between you and anyone else. I am just here to learn the most I can before I leave."

This was clearly not the response that Jennifer was expecting, and this is when Adair assumed that maybe that she hoped that she could have gained an ally in Adair in their cause. Or maybe Jennifer was actually worried that the other students would lie and tell misinformation about her, and she was only here to become a friend. Either way, Adair waited to see how Jennifer responded to her.
