Every words have it's own root word. Same is is the word FORGIVENESS. Some sees it to be PARDON; a partial removal of once wrong doings. likewise the root meaning of this word is seen The root of "forgive" is the Latin word "perdonare," meaning "to give completely, without reservation." (That "perdonare" is also the source of our English "pardon." likewise we see here that it can mean to give "completely" . Also we have related words (that will be used in the book) which explains forgiveness in it details. Such words are; remission, repentance, forgive, etc. So when ever we see words like that don't be confused.
Our course of study...
Luke 24:25-27
[25]Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
[26]Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
[27]And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
The above text background was about Jesus at his ressurection and he came across two said to be his disciples named CLEOPAS and the other person name wasn't mentioned. And the discussion he met with them was that:Luke 24:5-8
[5]And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
[6]He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
[7]Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
[8]And they remembered his words,
So , in their conversation, Jesus appear to them
Luke 24:15-16
[15]And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
[16]But their eyes were HOLDEN that they should not know him.
Note: The word HOLDEN doesn't mean someone is holding their eyes or they closed there eyes it's the Greek word;KRATEŌ meaning (to retain or seized) so they couldnt recognized him.
Jesus now said unto them:
Luke 24:17-24
[17]And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
THEY RESPONDED WITH(THE COMPREHENSION OF THEIR DISCUSSION)
[18]And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
[19]And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
[20]And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
[21]But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
[22]Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
[23]And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
[24]And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Then Jesus ministered unto them in verse 25 -27
Luke 24:25-27
[25]Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
[26]Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
[27]And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Let do some study here;
The word FOOLs here is not an abusive word remember I said that " Words won't mean what it never met as at when written" so the word FOOLS is the Greek word ANOĒTOS meaning unwise, unintelligent and here by implication means sensual. So they are sensual(Slow to think) in their reasoning. The word FOOLs was also used by apostle Paul; Galatians 3:1
[1]O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
BACK TO LUKE 24:25
Luke 24:25
[25]Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Likewise, the word "AND" here won't be used for conjunction. It's not used as a conjuncting words but it's the Greek word "KAI" which mean "THAT IS, WHICH IS". Also, the word SLOW OF HEART needs to be examine; "BRADUS KARDIA" in the Greek meaning dull heart and the word heart here can be use for their understanding, reasoning, mind. So we can say they were dull in the understanding, slow in their reasoning. Which meaning "they were slowing in understanding all that the prophet has spoken concerning Jesus Christ"
THE SCRIPTURES, THE PROPHET
The prophet in this light is said to be the scriptures.
So what's the scriptures?
2 Timothy 3:15-16
[15]And that from a child thou hast known the "HOLY SCRIPTURES", which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
[16]All "SCRIPTURE" is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
ALSO;
Romans 16:26
[26]But now is made manifest, and by the "SCRIPTURES OF THE PROPHETS," according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Romans 1:1-2
[1]Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
[2](Which he had promised afore by his PROPHETS IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES,)
So the SCRIPTURES here won't be GENESIS TO REVELATION but will be seen as the writings of the prophets and those prophets will be MOSES, ISAIAH'S PSALMIST etc.. So Jesus was then referring to the SCRIPTURES (Genesis to Malachi) that they are all written about him. John 5:39
[39]Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: AND THEY ARE THEY WHICH TESTIFY OF ME.
Which is to say that; "The testimony of the prophets is Jesus".
Luke 24: 25KJV
Luke 24:25
[25]Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
in verse 44:
Luke 24:44
[44]And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, "that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. "
That will then be that in the writings of the Scripture (Genesis to Malachi) will speak of God's FORGIVENESS for and to mankind. "Cause when it comes to the study of the Scripture, it must be done in light of Christ".
The word FORGIVENESS or forgive was first used by Moses.
Genesis 50:17
[17]So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, FORGIVE the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
The old testament book of the Bible was written in Hebrew Language so the Hebrew word for forgive here means lift, bear, borne, away etc..
Leviticus 4:31
[31]And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.
So every subject of the Bible is channel from the writings of the Scripture (Genesis to Malachi).
WHAT'S THEN FORGIVENESS IN THE SCRIPTURES
Numbers 14:19-20
[19]Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
[20]And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
Exodus 32:30-33
[30]And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
[31]And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
[32]Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
[33]And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
From the above Scripture, forgiveness is said to be to bare, pardon. The question here will be what is the "PARDON FOR" ???
