The days were growing closer and closer to when Liliana was expected to go into labor. Dr. Lively was getting excited because this would be the first dhampir birth she had ever experienced.
"Now, Liliana, you must be prepared for pretty much anything. I'm guessing that childbirth will be very similar to human birth; however, I just don't know. It is such a rare occurrence, and I have been combing through book after book, looking for details. And there just isn't much. The notes I did find make references to 'the second birth.' I'm researching to figure out what exactly is meant by these words. Nonetheless, you keep drinking plenty of water, and make sure you get at least eight to nine hours of sleep a day."
Liliana was helped to a sitting position on the edge of the examining table by the nurse. Her abdomen was now the size of a basketball and sat resting on her inner thighs. It had become difficult to sleep soundly while lying in bed, so Darick ordered a lounger.
