How he became

Let's move it, girls. I've called for a bison," Beifong bucked Kayne up onto her back to ease her shoulders and arms during the travel.

Korra was numb on the lips. She huffed her breath like a horse, and her mood was grumpy. She kept a constant gaze on the group, as if hell would emerge from beneath if she lost focus on it.

Jinora closed the distance with her and touched her on the elbow with a pinch.

"Huh!!" She gasped in startle. "Are you okay? You haven't spoken since the limo-bat. Is it Kayne? Did something happen?" None of these questioning statements got to her. Her mind was thrown into a trance; she had become deaf to her surroundings. This gave way for her instincts to play in response to Jinora. She stared for a while and nodded.

"Let's move!" Lin Beifong had covered enough distance to almost lose sight of them. Her voice caught their attention, and her head shook in demand of them to catch up.

The girls joined her. Kayne gained consciousness halfway to waking up. His body was being jostled as Lin jumped over rocks and hills.

"No!!....Mum!!...Dad!!..." Kayne saw his building tremble and fall, the rocks dropped from heights, the dust almost filled his lungs. His world was ruined, and he lacked hesitation to just run into the building to find the remains of his parents.

He felt a grab from behind. "Are you crazy? You could die! If you have a relative in there, then I'm sorry. But I can't let you kill yourself," said the driver.

"We could've saved them if you could've just stepped on it!!" He swooshed his wrist from the man's grip and rushed towards the building.

Raaagh!! Thump!! Dum!! Wam!!

He stomped the ground, dragged his feet, and stretched his arm to hold the boulders, rocks, and even dust still in the air. His shoulders shook due to the weight from it. His head lowered. Tears fell down his eyes.

"Ngh!! Are you just gonna stand there, you sick bastard!!" He screamed.

The driver ripped off his uniform and ran to Kayne in his black tank top. He joined in the hold right before more debris added up to the burden.

They both felt the pressure; the man stomped his feet to hold up everything.

Kayne dropped to the ground. He was surprised to see everything still, floating. The man was stuck in a pose in order to maintain balance.

"Ngh.. can you metal bend?" He groaned.

"Yes, what do you have in mind?" Kayne stood on his feet.

"I'll need you to support it while I break them all to dust, use my vehicle," the driver said.

"B-but your taxi... Just do it!!" He insisted. Kayne got the signal. He stripped down his uniform as well for the moment.

He joined her fingers and bent his arm. He took in a large mass of air and began. Twisting and crooking his fingers, he ripped off the vehicle sheet by sheet, rod by rod, nut by nut. He manipulated them into sharp and flat constructs to shove some into the building walls and others to hang. The driver took steps back, showed his palm towards the rocks, and spread his fingers apart.

Tfff..... the rocks were turned to dust. "Woah," Kayne was amazed to meet a sand bender for his very first time, one with such a strange gift of dismembering rocks to particles.

Kayne regained consciousness. He had taken a short stroll through his memory files; he was still exhausted. He looked to see that he was tied up, lying on the back of the flying bison in the middle of the night.

"My parents are still in there!!! It echoes." His eyelids slowly fell shut once more. A resume to his memories.

With the road cleared after the sand bender dragged it all away from the entrance, a wall was cracked open; the price of it was carved out by an earth bender from inside. He brought out his earth for air from the smoke and dust. It was Kayne's dad. He alerted the driver, pointing in the direction.

He coughed and had a woman in his arms. The man held Kayne on the head. "Stay here." He dashed into the building to rescue. Kayne breathed heavily; a broad smile arced on his face, breath after breath.

"I thought I lost them," he exhaled in relief.

Dum!! Dum!! Thump!! The ground and the pebbles shook. The air fell into a field of vibration. Dust approached his direction with a strong wind.

Whirrr!! "That's the..!!" He steered his head reluctantly to the direction in sound. It was Kuvira's robot. He could see the avatar fly from a nearby building to the one with his parents trapped in it.

He waved his arms. "No don't bring the war here, people are still evacuating!!"

Whirrr!!! Zheeem!!!!! The robot launched a charged blast towards his position. Time froze before his eyes. It was over, and there was no way out but death. "At least I'm coming with mom and dad." He closed his eyes.

Oof!! Kayne felt his groin pushed by a person. They both fell, and the person took him into his arms and ran from the approaching beam. He jumped into a window with a lift from earth; they crashed into a destroyed room. They fell and rolled. The unknown stranger got to his feet and elevated a wall of earth to shield them from the heat.

The room was darkened by this...

7 hours later. Girong!!! Giro!!!

Kayne was woken by the calling noise from outside. He believed he was dead until he was proved wrong by a hard palm tapping his cheeks. "Hey, get up, let's go."

Kayne rose to his back, leaned against the wall. He watched the face of the wrapped man earth bend the wall away, and the light from outside scorched into their eyes.

A moving shadow was cast away from Kayne. "Here, take my hand." The man threw his arm towards Kayne to offer help. Kayne stood up without him anyway. He walked past him on a limping leg to the window.

It was nighttime. He looked in front of him and saw no building. The man joined him on his right.

"Giro!! Let's go!!" A group waved up then from below.

"Hey guys!!" The man waved back. He unwrapped his face so Kayne could see it. Kayne let loose of his balance; he dropped himself from the height and landed roughly on the ground. He ran on a broken leg and now a broken back to the destroyed area...

Everything was destroyed. The building was shattered to debris. He fell to his knee and looked down to the ground... he felt nothing but pain. A huge pit was created by the blast, and the only thing he could imagine was his parents.

A hand touched his shoulder from behind. It was the stranger by the name Giro. "I'm Zit Girong; you'll be safe with me and my crew." He turned to stare at the crew standing next to him.

His face was covered with dust, and his eyes felt numb like his face was molested.

"Kayne?" His name was called by a woman within the crowd. He turned to see it was her auntie. He ran to her and fell before he could touch her garment.

She held him by the cheeks. "Where is your mother, Kayne?" she asked. He pointed at the debris. She looked in that direction and fell to her knees. Tears fell down her cheeks into Kayne's face.
