Chapter Two: The Prophecy Unveiled

The village of Eldoria was a buzz of activity the following morning. The square, still marked by the previous night's chaos, now held an air of determination. Villagers worked together to repair the damage, and whispers of the dark sorcerer Morgath's attack spread like wildfire.

Aldric sat on the edge of his bed, the events of the previous night replaying in his mind. He had barely slept, haunted by the explosion of his uncontrolled magic and Morgath's sinister promise. Elysia was already up, packing supplies with a focused intensity that Aldric envied.

"We need to see the elder," she said without looking up. "He knows more than he's telling us. About you, about Morgath, about this whole mess."

Aldric nodded, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "You're right. Let's go."

They made their way to the elder's cottage, a modest stone house on the outskirts of the village. The door creaked open before they could knock, and the elder ushered them inside with a grave expression.

"Sit, both of you," he said, gesturing to two chairs by the hearth. The room was filled with the scent of herbs and old parchment, and the walls were lined with shelves of ancient tomes and relics. "There is much you need to know, and not much time."

Aldric and Elysia took their seats, exchanging a glance of shared apprehension. The elder sat across from them, his eyes weary but resolute.

"You are aware of the prophecy, are you not?" he began.

Elysia shook her head. "We've heard whispers, but nothing concrete."

The elder sighed. "Very well. Long ago, a prophecy was foretold about a mage who would either save or doom Thaloria. This mage, it was said, would possess great power—power that could rival the ancient sorcerers themselves. The key to this power lies in the Eternal Echo, an artifact of unimaginable strength, hidden away to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands."

Aldric felt a chill run down his spine. "And you think I'm this mage?"

"I do," the elder replied. "Your display of magic last night confirmed it. But with this power comes great danger. Morgath seeks the Eternal Echo to bend it to his will. If he succeeds, all of Thaloria will fall into darkness."

Elysia clenched her fists. "So what do we do?"

"You must find the Eternal Echo before Morgath does," the elder said. "The journey will be perilous, filled with trials that will test your strength, your resolve, and your bond. But you will not be alone."

From the shadows of the room, a figure stepped forward—a man cloaked in deep blue robes, with a hood that obscured most of his face. His eyes, however, were bright and keen, full of an intense curiosity.

"This is Thane," the elder introduced. "He is the guardian of the Forgotten Archives and a keeper of ancient knowledge. He will guide you on your quest."

Thane bowed slightly. "It is an honor to meet you both. The road ahead is fraught with danger, but together, we stand a chance."

Aldric felt a sense of hope stir within him. "When do we leave?"

"At dawn," Thane replied. "We must move quickly, before Morgath gains any more ground."

The elder handed Aldric a small, leather-bound book. "This journal belonged to the last mage who sought the Eternal Echo. It contains notes, maps, and clues that will aid you on your journey. Guard it well."

Aldric accepted the book with reverence. "Thank you. We won't let you down."
