Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, gets whisked away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz along with her dog Toto. Their farmhouse lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, killing her. Dorothy is hailed as a hero by the grateful Munchkins, who live in Oz. Following the Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy embarks on a quest to find the Wizard of Oz, who can help her return home. Along the way, she befriends a Scarecrow who desires a brain, a Tin Woodman yearning for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion seeking courage. Each companion hopes the Wizard will grant their wish. The Wicked Witch of the West, the deceased Witch's sister, seeks revenge on Dorothy for her sister's demise and tries to thwart her journey. Dorothy and her friends face many challenges on their way to the Emerald City, where the Wizard resides. Ultimately, through cleverness, kindness, and bravery, Dorothy and her companions overcome the obstacles and the Wicked Witch's magic. They learn that the qualities they seek weren't missing all along, and the Wizard himself is revealed to be a simple man relying on trickery. Dorothy discovers the magic to return home was within her all along through the power of the ruby slippers she received from the Good Witch of the North.
