Chapter 28

Well, it was only a matter of time.

Will opened the door of the cell. Makatza got to her feet.

“Not you,” he says, not even looking in her direction. “You.” He points his cane at me.

He looms over me, releasing me from my restraints but keeping a firm grip on the collar and leash.

“Where are you taking her?” Makkie asks.

“None of your business,” Will snaps. “I’m tired of you two wasting my time. It’s time she earned her keep.”

Makatza nods and lies back down. Not even going to put up a fight? I get it. The cane hurts, and he doesn’t even care where it lands. All I can do is go along as Will tugs me through the corridors toward the arena. But this time, he takes a turn.

I try to pull back, but Will tugs harder. I stumble in an attempt to keep my balance.

“Hurry up,” he growls. “We’re nearly late.”

Well maybe if you slowed down, I could keep up. Asshole.

He eventually puts me in a smaller room and unhooks the leash.
