I don’t see him the next morning. When I enter the dining room, it is completely empty. The leftovers from last night are still laid out, both of our meals half-eaten. I sigh and walk into the room in the back, finding the kitchen.
I look through the cupboards, finding nothing to eat. It seems as though we’re out of food. I wonder for a moment if I should wake Dominik, but the memories of last night sweep over me. The heat of his breath, the warmth of his body hovering over mine, the faintest brush of his lips… I shake my head and decide to fend for myself for the morning.
I walk out of the castle, looking around briefly. During my time growing up, I would occasionally hunt for berries and mushrooms to accompany whatever my father caught for dinner. Perhaps I would be able to find something out here to eat.
