Chapter 19: The husband or the wife

I didn't want to rise from the floor. I wanted to stay and wallow in my thoughts. Figure out why I am so attracted to a woman that I am sure aren't capable of reciprocating. And let's not forget absolutely crazy.

When the phone continued to ring I pulled myself off the wooden floor, groaning and moaning as my knees protested the movement. They weren't ready, or I am getting old. Which ever it was I finally managed to get myself to my feet.

I looked at the half drank red wine on the counter and decided that I needed a glass or two.

I poured my glass half full and carried it with me to the living room where the phone was still ringing. It was inside my hand bag.

I rooted around inside and finally found it just as the ringing stopped.

I looked at the screen to see two missed calls from Sophie.

Just the person I want to talk to.

I relaxed back on the couch, took a sip of the wine, and pressed the dial button to call her back. The wine tasted a little sour initially, then sweet. It was a good wine. The same quality as the wine from the jet.

That felt as if it was months ago, but it has only been few days.

Sophie picked immediately.

"What took you so long?" she barked as soon as she came to the phone.

I frowned at her irritation. First Amelia and now her.

"What is with people having issues with me not picking their calls. You guys know I am not at your beck and call," I spat into the phone, while trying to push the thought of Amelia from my mind.

I am not going to think about her or the kiss, I told myself emphatically, but guess what it was all my mind could think about.

"Emma!"

The loud screech of my name from the phone made me jump, spilling the wine in my glass slightly.

"Shit!" I exclaimed at the feel of the wetness on my white camisole. For the interview I went old school. Three quarter hand black blazer, a white camisole inside and a black pantsuit, and black cover shoes with slim heels.

"Sophie! you scared the crap out of me," I groaned dropping the glass in my hand on top of the rectangular glass table at the centre of the living room.

"I wouldn't have if you had been listening to me," she retorted. "What has your mind occupied. Haven't heard from you all day."

Sophie and I talk all day. Whether face to face or through phone in days we can't meet.

I do miss her really. She is my person.

"Sorry, Soph, is been one hell of a crazy day," I relaxed again to the couch, crossing my leg at the knees.

"What happened?"

"I had an interview this morning that was canceled and somehow I got the job, and then Amelia..."

"Hold on Emma, you are not making sense. Why are you interviewing for a job. You are not there to work."

I could hear her frown in her voice. I rolled my eyes in response. "I know what I am here to do thank you very much," I retorted.

"No need to get your panties in a twist, I am just trying to understand, baby girl," she said as a way of apologizing which got me rolling my eyes again.

"The interview is for Mr Valentine's secretary."

"And Mr Valentine issss?"

"Amelia's husband."

"Why do you need to work for the man to seduce him?" The frown was there again.

"Because I am not just seducing him. Amelia wants me to get some secrets for her."

"What secrets? And why can't she get it? She is the wife."

"I don't think they have a good relationship," I drank from my glass, as my thoughts went back to Amelia. I couldn't understand how a man could have her in his home and not love her. I know she seems difficult, but...

My thoughts got interrupted when Sophie spoke.

"And what gave that away?"

I rolled my eyes and chuckled at her obvious sarcasm.

"So have you met him?" There was giddy excitement in Sophie's voice that made me smile again before responding to her.

"Yes. I ran into him while I was rushing to the interview."

"Is it weird that I find it weird that you are going to be working in an office?"

"Yes," I retorted not waiting for her teasing words to land first.

She laughed on the other end.

"No need to pick offense babes. I meant nothing by it," she defended innocently but we both knew  that was a lie.

"You know I have a working brain right?"

"Definitely babes. But when was the last time you used it?" There was amusement in her voice which made me roll my eyes again.

"So what does he look like?"

"Who?"

"Donald Trump," she retorted sarcastically.

"Hey! If you are going to be a smart ass I won't tell you anything," I fired back.

"Alright, I am sorry, babes. You know it is been dull over here since you left. So I want to hear all about the excitements you are having in LA," her voice mellowed.

"He is gorgeous. Older looking, but very handsome and clean."

"What do you mean older looking?"

"He looked to be in his fifties."

"And the wife?"

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Amelia.

I will say early thirties or middle thirties.

"Wow! Such a huge age difference. Maybe she married him for his money, and is looking to divorce him. She needs you to find her something to use so she can take him for all he is worth. I bet their marriage had a prenup."

A wrinkled appeared on my forehead as I gave her words some thoughts. I didn't think Amelia will go to this length just to divorce her husband. She seems like a very capable person, and I am sure if it was just divorce she wanted she would have found a way to do it.

I shook my head. I think it is something more.

"Emma. Are you still there?"

"Yeah. Just thinking," I replied distractedly.

"The husband or the wife?"

I blushed at Sophie words. "Why would I think about the wife?"

"So you are thinking about her."

"What!" I retorted to Sophie's knowing voice.

"Well you get defensive when you are trying to cover something. So spit it out."

"She kissed me," I mumbled into the phone.

"Excuse me!"

"Twice."

"What! Girl spill. How was it?" Sophie gushed into the phone.

I blushed, and smiled at the same time. My body trembling as I remembered the feel of Amelia's lips on mine.

"It was good. More than good," I added in a softer tone.

"Girl details. I don't want the PG version," Sophie screeched into the phone. I could feel her bubbly excitement from my side of the phone.

"We kissed the first time in her private jet, and then again today. It was so exhilarating. Her lips was the softest and the sweetest I have ever tasted. And the way she kissed me. So possessive and demanding. The desire I felt while she was kissing me is something I have never felt with anyone. I felt like I was going to combust."

While speaking I slipped into the memories of what happened in the kitchen. I felt my nipples hardened as I relieved her touch on them. I felt a tingle between my legs.

"Are you falling for her?"

Sophie's ridiculous question jogged me out of my reverie.

"What!" I leaped up from my relaxed position nearly spilling the wine again, a panicked look on my face. "Why will you think that?" I barked harshly as my heart pounded in my chest.

"You didn't hear yourself as you were talking about your kiss with her. I have never heard you talk about anyone like that. And relax it is just a question."

"Well, the answer is no. I can't fall for her."

"Why the hell not?"

"Hello. I am doing a job for her. A job may I remind you involves me fucking her husband."

"So what?"

"So I can't fuck them both."

"Why not? I mean one is your job, and the other is for your pleasure. Who said you can't work and have fun at the same time?"

"When the work and the pleasure involves a married couple."

"If not Amelia, then the sexy neighbor," Sophie teased.

"You mean Cassius?"

"Wait, have you met another sexy neighbor?"

"No, and how do you know he is sexy?" I frowned.

"You told me."

"No I did not."

"From the way you sounded when you spoke about him."

I was about to say something when my phone pinged with a message.

My heart skipped thinking it was Amelia.

"Excuse me Soph, just got a message," I pulled the phone away from my ear and couldn't help the disappointment I felt inside when I saw that It wasn't from Amelia.

It was a message from the HR department telling me that I got the job and I should come in tomorrow for the paper work and ID card.

"Few hours too late," I grumbled to myself and then went back to my call.

"Sophie. Hello."

No response.

I took my phone away from my ear again and looked at the screen to see that she has hung up. I can't believe she hung up on me.

I finished the wine in my glass and then made my way to the bedroom to change out of the clothes I was wearing. The camisole is already ruined. Wonder what I will use to remove a wine stain.
