My dad's always had a bad mental image of George's family. And seeing the way Jessica, George's little sister, is acting toward me definitely isn't helping matters.
"Does she always make such a scene in public?" my dad mutters, not taking his eyes off her.
I try to stay neutral, sipping on my water. "Unfortunately."
His eyes narrow as Jessica lets out another shrill laugh. He's gripping his spoon too tightly, his knuckles pale. Just as I'm about to steer the conversation in a different direction, a waiter approaches their table, and for a moment, Dad's attention is diverted.
He finally turns back to me, his brow still furrowed. "Who's the one she's with? George's new girlfriend?"
I nod, barely glancing their way. "Yeah, that's her."
My dad lets out a deep sigh, shaking his head. "I just can't understand how parents can raise a girl with so little self-respect."
