The Divine Horrors

“The circle of ages turns, and life and death are but passing shadows, for eternity remembers not the living nor the dead.” — Eternis 10:6 Have you ever wondered if Gods really exist or are they just a figment of humanity's imagination for hope? If they really exist and aren't just a figment of our imagination, are they benevolent and merciful, or are they indifferent to our sufferings? Arohan, an atheist despised the concept of religion and Gods because of his parent's death. His parents left him wealth beyond measure, so he lived his life the way he desired and did whatever he wanted without caring about the consequences. The First Display of Power(1)

Arohan stretched his arms and groaned in pleasure as he woke up after a long comfortable sleep.

His stomach growled once again. There were still some fruits left from yesterday, so he munched on it, enjoying that peaceful life.

After finishing all the fruits, his hunger satiated, so his eyes fell on the book.

Time flew by, and days passed in the blink of an eye.

It had been four days since Arohan came to Trita and except for the first hour of panic and fear, the remaining time had been comfortable and relaxing.

Today was finally when he could leave the room since he had read the minimum required knowledge. As he readied himself to leave the room, there was a sudden knock on the door.

With a surprised expression, Arohan walked to the door and unlocked it. The next moment, a gigantic armored face greeted his eyes. He couldn't help but back away in surprise.

"Let's go, captain has summoned you," The armored man informed.

"Why?"

Arohan frowned since he was just about to taste freedom and that happened.

"You will know when you meet him."

The man didn't say anything extra and left after informing.

Arohan had no choice but to follow the man in a hurry since he didn't know the location of the captain. As for the identity, he had a doubt about the man who led him to that room days ago.

The building seemed to be a small town in itself as Arohan had to follow the man for hundreds of meters before he finally stopped before a large door.

The man then took off the helmet, and an ugly middle-aged face appeared before Arohan.

'I guess, armor helps some people.'

Arohan thought since the man was among the ugliest men he had ever seen. It wasn't natural ugliness, but deformities that were formed from wounds.

The next moment, the door automatically opened with a small sliding sound. The man walked in and Arohan followed.

"Eh!"

Arohan exclaimed in surprise as on the other side of the door, there was a large ground and there were tents spread across the area.

With just a glance, he could see hundreds of tents. The tents weren't small either, but on average, they were just as big as two-story buildings on Earth.

'It must be their barracks!'

The thought popped into his head, and Arohan lost interest in seeing the scenery.

He didn't have a good impression of the armored group at all, so he didn't have much interest in them and what they did.

After walking for around ten more minutes, the man stopped before a gigantic tent. He stopped at the entry and yelled about bringing Arohan.

"Bring him in!"

The next moment, the order came. Arohan recognized the voice since it was the same man he had thought the captain to be.

The man walked inside the tent and Arohan followed him.

As soon as he walked in, loud voices drowned him. When he looked at the source of the sound, his eyes shrank in surprise.

A floor above him, a group was fighting with another group, and the floor was transparent for those below it, and he could see it.

'What a weirdo!'

Arohan thought in his heart since any sensible being wouldn't make the fighting floor transparent. Only a pervert would think of such a thing.

"Come up!"

A voice rang in Arohan's ears not long after stepping inside. With a frown, he looked around. After finding the stairs to go upward, he walked in that direction.

When he reached the first floor, many eyes were immediately directed at him. With a cautious expression, he looked at the center and saw a large man sitting on a large chair.

Armored men seemed giants, but many of them were that way due to their large armor. The same wasn't the case for the captain. Even without wearing the armor, the man seemed to be more than eight feet.

"Have you ever fought before?"

"Eh!"

Arohan raised his eyes in surprise when he heard the question, and at the same time, a bad feeling appeared in his heart.

"No, I was always weak," Arohan replied after a long pause.

On Earth, he didn't have a need to fight as there was strong physical and financial security at his arsenal. If he didn't like someone, he could just trouble them financially or if someone tried to really get on his bad side, his guards first beat that person. Even though he lost a lot of money due to that as there came charges after him, he had so much money that he didn't care about that much loss at all.

"Good, today will be your first battle."

Arohan panicked as things went differently than he thought them to be. What he didn't know was that the question was just a formality. Even if Arohan didn't answer, he would still be battling in the arena today.

The captain was knowledgeable, so he knew that the majority of the aliens that traveled from other planes had their opportunities, and it had been quite a while since any alien joined their group.

The captain wanted to test whether Arohan was worth that opportunity since the armored groups were the most elite force in the city and not just anybody could join their group.
