Jonathan had many questions he wanted to ask Whitney, but he felt that they did not have such a close relationship. He did not want to scare her away too early.
So the two eat their food calmly. Jonathan unconsciously watched as Whitney ate. He realised that she had such good table manners. He smiled. She looked beautiful to him as she chewed.
"Is there something on my face?" Whitney used the napkin to touch the side of her lips in embarrassment. She had felt Jonathan's gaze had been on her too long. She could not keep pretending, so she felt a bit conscious.
"No," Jonathan looked away, embarrassed. He did not realise that he had been looking for so long. Whitney did not know why, but she felt shy. She had never had a boyfriend, and this was the first time that she had the attention of the opposite gender.
"What are your plans now?" Jonathan tried to say something after all, the atmosphere between them had become a bit awkward.
"I applied for a job at Smart cooperation," Whitney said. Although she was not sure she would get an interview, this was the best answer she could give at the moment. Whitney unconsciously did not want to show her vulnerable self before him.
"Oh, I hope you get it. Smart cooperation pays twenty to thirty percent more," Jonathan nodded his head. Whitney was relieved that he did not continue to ask. Jonathan smiled, and it made Whitney smile too.
She felt she was finally experiencing the sweet nothing girls used to talk about when she was in high school. She knew she should not be thinking about relationships, given her family's condition. Hell! Even Jonatha might not like her that way.
He already made it clear that he wanted to graduate together as her GPA would contribute to their class honour, but his smile made her feel butterflies in her belly.
Jonathan was handsome, no doubt. She wondered who was lucky enough to have him as her man. Her thoughts were going astray, but she did not try to stop them. After all, it was a rear moment to escape from the pressure of her life.
The two finished eating their meal in a peaceful environment and got up together. It was as though they had a tactical understanding of each other. Watching the two act like this made Samantha angry.
She had been trying to get Jonathan to talk to her, but he would excuse himself when it did not have anything to do with school. Watching him discuss Whitney's private matter was a slap on her face.
"I will not attend the afternoon class, help me with the notes later," Samathan said and got up from her seat. Because of safety, students could only park their cars at the car pack close to the school gate. This was about thirty minutes away from where she was.
No matter how much she hated it, she had suffered this fate for three years. So it no longer bothered her much. When she got to the car, she immediately brought out her phone and called her father's Secretary.
"Is father at the office?" Samantha asked.
"No, he is having a meeting with the president," the Secretary asked. When Samantha heard this, she was angry. Her father was the HR director of Smart cooperation. She wanted to meet him so that she could block the way for Whitney.
"Would the meeting take long," Samantha asked, not wanting to give up.
"I am not sure. He already went in for half an hour," the Secretary replied.
"Okay, " Samantha ended the call. She knew that her father hated her going over to the company if it was not for an emergency. Since he was not free, she decided to go out. Anyways she did not believe that it would be too late to talk to her father at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Whitney had no idea that someone was blocking her part. She attended her next class, which was the last class.
"Would you be in school tomorrow," Jonathan asked as the two of them walked out of the class together. This time, more people from the class notice the closeness between those two.
"What's going on?" One girl whispered to the other.
"How should I know?" The other girl shook her head. Jonathan and Whitney had entered and exited the class together.
Many people did not pay much attention at first, but seeing them together for the whole day, there was no way people would not gossip.
"Are the two together?" Another asked.
"How would I know? This is the first time Jonathan is close to a girl from our class," another person said.
"Why are you all concerned about Jonathan? Whitney is our beauty with the brain. She never used to have time to idle around after class," a guy said. Although Whitney did not dress up with a lot of effort, her natural face was already beautiful anyone could tell.
"Her, no matter how beautiful she is, she is a bookworm," a girl said, unable to hide her jealousy. Many girls in their faculty admired Jonathan. Even back when they had just joined, a few seniors also had a crush on him.
"This is why a beautiful face is nothing, giving Jonathan's intelligence. What would he want with someone like you," the guy mocked. He could tell that the girl was talking down on Whitney out of Jealous
When the girl heard this, she glared at the boy as though she wanted to eat him up. "Why are you looking at me? I am just stating facts. If you want Jonathan's attention, you can try to have better results compared to Whitney," the guy was not threatened by her gaze.
"Are those two really together?' Marian asked. She was yet to leave the class and wanted to find out more.
" most likely, I even saw them together at the administration block yesterday," Another girl said.
"Administration block? What could they be doing there?" Marian asked. She did not want to be the bearer of such news.
"I don't know. It seems Jonathan was helping her sort out some issues. I heard Whitney is a scholarship student; maybe it's related," the girl replied.
"Why do you care so much about other people's lives?" a guy who had been quiet looked at all of them with disdain. He was the first person to get close to Whitney when they were freshmen. At that time, he wanted to ask her out, but Whitney had once said that she would only consider a relationship after she graduated and landed a good job.
He had seen her difficulties and helped her get the marking job. Later he felt that he might not be able to wait and ask her out, so he distanced himself a bit, hoping that they could be official after school, but he did not understand why she was going around the school with Jonathan. He hated the direction of the conversation more.
