The Devil's Embrace

Madeline Rose had only ever worked in her father's local blacksmith shop and occasionally helped her mother at the farm. Her skin had become tanned from the hot sun, but despite all of this, she did not complain. Even though she didn't come from a wealthy home, she was content. However, her life turned upside down when she stumbled upon a darkness that refused to leave her alone. There was him, a man cloaked in mystery and malice, a presence that sent chills down her spine. His eyes, shrouded in shadows, held a depth of darkness that seemed to swallow the light around him. When their paths crossed, Madeline felt a cold dread wash over her, as if she had invited a malevolent force into her world.

The butler sighed, waving his hands, completely ignoring Draven while he looked at Madeline. "Perhaps your husband is a bit jealous of an old man," he remarked.

"I am not jealous," Draven muttered, glaring at him.

"Well, have some rest, my queen. You can come down for dinner after you have freshened up," Brimsley bowed to Madeline.

Madeline returned the bow with a smile, 'Thank you, Brimsley."

The man nodded and walked away through one of the doors that Madeline assumed led to the kitchen.

She turned back to Draven, grinning.

"I am pained, wife," Draven teased, holding his chest dramatically, "that you seem to enjoy Brimsley's company more than mine."

"Of course not," Madeline rolled her eyes, taking Draven's hand, "I enjoy your company the most."

There was a long pause as they both stared at each other, neither speaking a word, until Draven broke the silence.
