Over my dead body

Marcus returned to the palace after spending some time alone to think. The events of the evening had terrified him.

Recalling the kiss that he had shared with the monster made him want to vomit. He had not known why it was that he had moaned during the kiss.

He made himself belief that it was the first time he experienced kissing and that was the reason. He told himself that he would have felt the same way if a girl were the one to kiss him instead of the king.

Entering the palace, he was surprised to see a setting of a party from far away. "What now?" he let out.

He was not very pleased with how fast things were going. In the morning he had let a wolf free, at noon he found out that he was engaged to be married to the werewolf King and then the scene between him and the king.

He was tired and wanted to get some rest from the tiring day that he had. He didn't have anymore strength in him to deal with more that life wanted to throw at him.

As he entered the room he froze. The room was full of guests wearing a mask, they were dressed in fancy clothes. The room was well decorated with the best of flowers, the tables were set elegantly with scented candles in the middle of the table.

Before he could register what was happening, he felt someone put a mask on his face.

"I thought that you were going to miss our engagement party," he heard the familiar voice of the king say to him.

His body tensed hearing his husky voice speak to him from behind. He panted for breath as the king wrapped his arms to his waist.

The King laid a kiss on his neck before releasing him. "Let's not get excited," he spoke and reached out his hand to Marcus.

"Will you do me the honor of accepting my proposal?" he asked softening his voice.

Marcus had a flashback of the moment in the garden when the king had mocked him. He boiled with anger as he recalled how the man before him humiliated him.

"Over my dead body," he replied to him angrily.

He made a move to go to his room and get away from the crazy man. The man was hell bound on marrying him for reasons that he didn't understand and it irritated him.

"I do not ever want to see you in pain let alone dead," the king uttered. "But I can't say the same for your people. Their dead bodies would not make a difference to me," he added stopping Marcus in his steps.

Marcus turned around to face him, the king took the initiative to march up to him. He carefully stood close to him without letting their bodies touch. He grabbed hold of Marcus's hand and brought it to his lips.

"You see my darling, the thing is if this wedding doesn't take place then the war will go on," he told kissing Marcus's hand. "And I will have you know that until now my people have only been using half their strengths at war. Say the word in a day. Everyone in Narsia will be dead, except you of course," the king added to him.

Marcus's breath caught as he heard the words that came out of the king's lips. The audacity of the man to threaten him in his own home was nothing short of astounding.

But the truth of his words made him helpless to speak back to him. He closed his eyes and let the tears that had formed I'm his eyes to fall down his cheeks.

"Are you thr..threatening me?" he questioned him nervously. His hands were shaking from the anger that flowed in his body. He was raging mad, at the heartless king, at his father who agreed to the wedding. His family for not stopping all of the madness.

"Don't put it like that. Think of it as me persuading you to agree to marry me," the king said giving him an award winning smile.

The smile on his face made Marcus furious. He wished for the earth to open up and swallow him as he couldn't take it.

He couldn't help the fact whether he liked it or not he would be forced to marry a man he wants nothing to do with. Forget wanting to be with him, with each passing second his hatred for the man continued to grow.

The further he was being pushed to the wall, the more he grew to hate the man before him.

"You are a monster and I hate you so much," he uttered to him. Marcus turned away and ran, he didn't see where he was running to. He just needed to get away from it all.

His visage was blinded by the tears that had formed in his eyes. His eyes hurt from crying too much.He had spent the last hours shedding tears of the humiliation the king had put him through only to end up back in the same state.

He halted in his running when he could hear no one else around. He dropped to the ground and screamed loud enough to awaken the dead.

The fact could never change that he really wanted to die and end it all. He just couldn't believe that his life was over and that he was truly going to marry a man.

His eyes caught a glimpse of what looked like a knife at the table not far from him. Gathering some strength, he got up from the floor and went to the table.

His shaking hands picked up the knife from the table. He was aware that his behaviour was cowardly but he didn't care. He had to make it stop.

It had only been a day and he was already tired, he couldn't imagine if it had been a month or a year. It was best to end it.

He placed the knife to his wrist, closed his eyes and moved his hand. He bit his lower lip waiting for the pain but it never came.
