When Blanca saw the imposing, empty black sedan parked halfway up the road to the huge estate, she forcefully exhaled as she became aware of its presence. "Are those... the hunters?"
"Yes, it's the same people," the speaker said.
"We're too late, Dimitri."
He agreed as he clamped his teeth together tightly, trying to stifle the profanity that was about to escape his lips.
She had the right idea. It did not appear to hold any promise.
In his head, a risky strategy materialized, which he saw as his best available choice.
He would never risk leaving Blanca behind in the vehicle, and he wouldn't allow her to get out of his sight for a millisecond if he could help it. But his plan involved leaving her behind.
Dimitri instructed her to slide as far back in her seat as she could. "Blanca, please do not move. Not until I tell you to. OK?"
