Meleris shuffled around in his crib in the early morning. His crib was made of fine mahogany wood. Carvings of dragons decorated the crib, each one detailed and finely carved. Above were dragons of painted glass that rattled and swung with the wind. The said wind would come from the balcony doors in his finely decorated room. Meleris had always been an early riser and a late sleeper. At first, this worried the wet nurses that watched over him as he'd be restless during the early evening. Though when they arrived at Summerhall they seemed not to worry as much. Everyone was preoccupied with the arrival of many of the Lords Paramount.
Although the Targaryens are the ruling house the Lords Paramount still held some amount of importance as they were most likely to have family members marry into the Targaryen family. When they weren't marrying each other, Meleris thought.
The wet nurse tasked with watching over him came over lifting him out of his crib. Moving him to her exposed breast, she pressed him there until he started to suckle. This was the most effective way of curing the restlessness the wetnurses found. That was because every time Meleris did this afterward he would go to mourn over his lost innocence.
Soon after he was placed back in his crib and given a few wooden toys. Whilst ignoring the wetnurse's cooing Meleris found trying to get his grubby baby hands to build a tower on the uneven mattress infuriating. He was about to throw them when his older brother Aerys burst in. When they prepared his room originally in Summerhall he was much farther away from Aerys' room but Aerys had complained until finally his parents had collapsed and moved Meleris into the room across the hall. Rushing over Aerys grabbed Meleris and was about to drag him along with him like a ragdoll but the wetnurse rushed to stop him.
"Your Highness! Please treat His Highness gently, he's just a baby." Reaching out to take Meleris back the wetnurse's hands were slapped away. Wide-eyed she watched as a 12-year-old Aerys threw more of a fit than she'd ever seen little Meleris throw.
"How dare you! I'm a dragon you can't tell me what I can or can't do." Aerys was an arrogant character when it came to servants asking him not to do something. In his philosophy, if he wanted to take his little brother to show to his two friends then what right did this small folk have to stop him. A dragon cares little for the opinions of a cow.
The wet nurse waved her hands wildly in front of her, "No Your Highness that's not what I meant. All I meant was that perhaps His Highness might be uncomfortable going out at such a quick pace."
Meleris felt nauseaus. 'I swear Aerys do you have to be so rough. I know I'm amazing and all but is it really necessary.' He was shaken by the sudden intrusion and attempted kidnapping that was happening. 'Aerys you're twelve you're too small to be a dragon.'
Moving out the wide double doors, Aerys stood in an ornate hallway. Too bad it goes up in flames, in the end, Meleris internally sighed. The corridors were dotted with other doors and windows were popped in here and there. Many servants bustled through the corridors but all made way for the two princes.
A grand pair of doors sat sturdily more like walls than actual doors. These led to the throne room of Summerhall. Meleris had thought the corridors had been busy but the throne room was ten times as busy with local minor nobles arriving to curry favor with the Lords and Ladies Paramount or even better with the Targaryen family themselves. Many banners hung in the hall mostly those representing important or wealthy nobles that were arriving or due to arrive. Meleris counted most of the Great Houses with exception of Greyjoy, but he wasn't surprised he was more surprised by the fact that their banner wasn't hanging in expectancy of their 'eventual' arrival. It was an open secret in the court that the Greyjoys would much rather be out pillaging than they would be scheming or performing political maneuvers with others.
This court of Summerhill was a confusing jumble of many cultures with both domestic and foreign diplomats arriving, but Meleris did not have time to think on such matters as Aerys had started to move toward a group of nobles dressed in very extravagant garbs and bearing a golden lion against a red background that corresponded with one of the largest of the hanging banners. Among them was a stout man who had deep lines on his face standing beside a group of children, 5 in total.
As Aerys approached he called out, "Tywin! I brought Meleris with me!" As soon as his words left his mouth gasps resounded through the hall. Meleris had been spared from the public for months and now in a crowded throne room full of hundreds of nobles, knights, merchants, and diplomats he had just been presented. Many saw this as an opportunity, not only was a prince of the Targaryen house here but so was a newborn prince that had yet to be assigned a tutor. Those with more extensive knowledge and information knew that you were better off stabbing yourself than attempting to convince the prince to leave the little prince in your care.
However, even with this 'opportunity' placed directly in front of them, no one made a move and the hall's attention was soon diverted by the arrival of the current king and queen. Aerys moved forward grasping Tywin's arm and pulling him out of the hall into the gardens. Once they arrived at a seemingly random point of the very extensive Summerhill gardens they moved into a corner that was covered in flowers. Shuffling through all three arrived inside of a small box that was walled off on three sides by tall hedges and a very tall flower bush on the other side.
Inside was a person already sitting in a small wooden chair that would be found in the kitchen. Aerys moved to sit down and readjusted Melerys to be on his lap and Tywin started whispering to the other child before pulling out some honey candies that he distributed. Lies! This can't possibly be Tywin, Melerys screeched in his mind. Where was the ruthless Tywin he saw in the show!
Squatting down in front of Melerys Tywin talked quietly to Melerys, "Hello little prince. I'm Tywin Lannister, the heir apparent to Casterly Rock." Glancing toward the other kid he motioned toward Melerys.
Sitting down in the grass the youth started to speak to Melerys, "I'm Steffon Baratheon heir to Storm's End and your cousin." When Melerys started giggling, Steffon's grin grew so wide it looked like it would split his face. They soon returned to their seats and started to discuss all manner of things from court politics to how smelly the stable was. Soon however the topic shifted to Aerys' betrothal with Rhaella. Melerys was as a modern man disgusted and Aerys shared his disgust but not for the same reasons. Poor Rhaella, Melerys mourned his sister's loss as he couldn't imagine having to marry his sibling.
It soon started to become dark. Although Melerys had met Tywin someone who he'd had a lot of fear towards he was honestly slightly disappointed in the development. He did feel safer with the fact that Tywin seemed to not have any dangerous thoughts just yet.
Holding Melerys gently Aerys stood up and said his goodbyes before moving toward the exit...
I'll be honest I kinda hate this chapter because they were in public yet I am terrible at dialogue so this is what I got. I'm scared. The next scene will be *cough* No idea *cough* something. Have a nice day. :D
