Ambush

"Move it!" A guard yelled at a slow coachman.

The entrance of the castle swarmed with carriages that carried heaps of gifts tied to the carriage with ropes.

The royal family was moving to Adrian's bride's Mansion for the wedding that was to happen in five days.

All the carriages meant to carry the gifts had left and only the royal family stood in front of the castle waiting for their carriage so they could begin the journey.

"Adrian will ride with me and Edward," Their father announced when the carriages arrived. "We have something to discuss regarding the wedding preparations."

Adrian nodded and got into the carriage with his father and his elder brother.

The others entered their respective carriages and only Elena and Aziel were left.

"I don't see Lily anywhere..." Said Elena as she stood side by side with Aziel.

"If you don't see her, then she's not here." Aziel smiled before he entered his carriage. His carriage was the last as Elena's carriage moved first.

An hour into the journey, Adrian ordered his coachman to slow down. This made his carriage far behind the others. He sensed something was about to happen, he sensed Lily.

***

"Which carriage do you think he's in?" Simon asked Lily who lay beside him. They lay on the grass in the forest and used the tall trees to hide.

"I'm not sure...none of the carriages that just passed carried his air. Trust me, I can sense three villages away," Lily said agitatedly. She had waited here for hours and Aziel wasn't in sight.

All the carriages had passed and yet, Aziel wasn't in any.

"Are you sure he's coming this way?" One of the members of the grievers of doom who was on the other side of the forest yelled in frustration.

Lily felt pressured as she was the one who orchestrated the whole idea of ambushing Xavier on the road of Oax. Hearing the sighs of her members frustrated her to no end and when she thought all hope was lost, the air around her thickened and goosebumps enveloped her skin. Only one person can make her feel this way...

"He's here!" She announced and they all looked at her like she was sick. They couldn't hear the galloping of horses, nor could they see any carriage coming their way.

"Are you playing with us, kid?" Francis, the middle-aged man accused with anger.

"I'm telling you, sir Francis, he's coming." Lily half yelled. Soon, faint carriage noises were heard and they all took their positions back in the forest.

"How did you know he was coming?" Simon whispered, his eyes still focused on the road.

"I told you I could sense him three villages away," Lily sneered, "It's over for you, Aziel."

Aziel began humming when the scent of Lily became stronger. He smiled mysteriously, wondering what Lily had in store for him.

His carriage suddenly stopped in the middle of the road.

"What happened?" He asked the coachman.

"I'm so sorry my Lord, the horse refuses to move, I'll go down to check," The coachman came down and went to check on the horses, when he saw nothing was wrong with them, he went back into the carriage.

The coachman yelled and hit the horses with the whip yet, they refused to move.

"It's of no use," Aziel said with a wave of his hand, "they've been hypnotized."

The coachman was confused, the only people capable of hypnotizing were the witches. He shivered at the thought of those wicked creatures around.

Aziel came down from the carriage and walked in the middle of the road where Lily's scent dominated the most.

"Shoot!" An order from Francis had silver bullets flying around in the direction of Aziel.

"Idiots," Aziel muttered under his breath as bullets rammed into his body but caused no harm.

Silver bullets were the only metals strong enough to penetrate the body of a vampire. Silver bullets could kill vampires but not pure-blooded vampires.

Only silver bullets made with holy water and mustard seed blessed by a high priest in the church were able to kill pure-blooded vampires.

The bullets shot at him were made with holy water but not the mustard seed. Aziel could smell a conspiracy blooming.

He had lost his patience waiting for Lily to show up.

He ran into the forest at an unfathomable speed and began killing the members of doom.

"Please don't kill me, please don't kill me" A young man pleaded when Aziel held him in the air by his neck. The young man threw away his gun and pleaded for his life.

His pleas fell on deaf ears as Aziel tore his head from his body and sucked him dry.

Aziel's eyes turned to the darkest blood red, almost at the taste of blood and he went on a killing spree, tearing the limbs of anyone he saw and draining their blood.

The members of the grievers of doom saw that the silver bullets were doing no harm and ran deep into the forest for their life.

"We need to go," Simon said urgently but Lily didn't listen. She couldn't just leave like that without achieving her purpose.

"Give me a minute," Lily said and loaded her rifle gun with silver bullets.

"What are you doing Lily?!" Simon whispered yelled when he saw what Lily was doing. "You are going to bring his attention to us."

Lily played deaf ears to Simon's warning and fired a shot at Aziel.

Aziel turned to look in the direction of where the sound of the gun came from. The bullet had missed him and had successfully caught his attention as well.

"Look who we have here," Aziel smiled widely revealing his blood-stained teeth. His eyes changed back to their normal pale grey color.

Lily and Simon stood up from the ground and glared at Aziel. Simon drew Lily behind him and pointed his gun at Aziel.

After some seconds of careful thinking, Simon slowly dropped his gun on the floor and held Lily's hand. Seeing them hold hands tightly together made Aziel frown and he wanted nothing more than to break Simon's fingers.

"If you give us a second chance, we'll never appear before again." Simon asserted.

"Sorry to disappoint you, I don't give second chances," Aziel said thoughtfully and folded his hands behind him.

"That's right don't give us a chance because no matter how many chances you give us, I'll always come back to kill you..." Lily announced with hostility.

Simon tugged at her hand signaling her to keep mute but Lily only glared at Aziel with hatred.

"For someone who was so meek at the palace, you're quite fierce," Aziel smirked and took slow strides toward them.

"Stay back," Simon gestured with his hand stretched forward. He held Lily's hand tightly and attempted to run when Lily tugged her hands away from him.

"I'm not going to run like a coward again," Lily said boldly.

Aziel watched all this from a distance with a smile lingering on his lips. It was so interesting to watch their futile attempt at bravery.

As if a spell was cast on him, Simon suddenly felt overcome with courage and strength. He picked a branch from the floor and ran to where Aziel was and sought to stab him but Aziel caught the other end of the stick.

Simon struggled to stab Aziel but he was powerless yet he didn't stop.

"Simon!" Lily yelled. She was confused as to what stimulated him into acting so recklessly.

As Simon was still struggling foolishly, Aziel felt something wrong. He broke the stick and lifted Simon in the air to confirm his suspicion

Simon's leg flapped around as he used his nails to scratch Aziel's hand, "I'll kill you," Simon kept yelling instead of begging for his life as he should.

Aziel felt an ominous energy lurking around. He looked around but couldn't sense which direction it was coming from.

He was still focusing on pinpointing where the ominous energy was coming from when a sharp pain shot through his right leg.

He dropped Simon to the ground and bent to feel his leg when he felt a thick liquid.

Blood.
