Terminology

A short explanation of the many terms used throughout the story.

Consul

A Consul is a planetary governor appointed by the emperor, it is a non-hereditary position unlike noble titles.

Ardent

An Ardent is a type of scholarly priest from the Imperial Syncretic Church.

Radiant

A Radiant is a person able to wield the sci-fi magic called "Radiance". Radiant abilities are characterized by their bright colorful glow. Only those born with a specific genetic inclination can become radiants. Radiance is genetic in some forms, having one Radiant as a parent does not guarantee that the child will be one too, but if both parents are Radiants than the child will always be a Radiant themselves.

Using Radiant abilities extensively increases the natural lifespan of the radiant and causes their eyes to begin to glow brightly, especially at night.

Overusage of Radiant abilities will fatigue the Radiant and cause their skin to become temporarily extremely pallid.
