I gaped at Emory as she shrieked, glaring at me like I was the enemy here. Anger flared in my chest, but then suddenly, Emory broke. She dropped the fierceness and started to sob, but her eyes were pinched, and her hands balled to fists at her side. She kept shaking her head and muttering something I couldn't understand, but her hands came up to claw in her hair and her entire body trembled.
She really was on the edge, I realized.
Looking just as terrified as he had the moment we'd confronted her together, Erik put a hand to her shoulder, but she ignored him, hunched and shaking as she pushed words out through her teeth and tears to me.
