Chapter 1

"Why would you betray me with my master's son, Zelle?!" Levon looked at his lover disappointedly. He had just caught Zelle and Vincenzo, his employer's son, having an affair.

The blonde-haired, brown-eyed beauty rolled her eyes lazily. "Are you angry?"

"Of course! You betrayed me, Zella!" Levon shouted angrily. He was disappointed and hurt that he didn't see a look of remorse on his lover's face.

"So, what do you want?" Zelle arrogantly rubbed the blue diamond ring on her ring finger as if deliberately showing it off to Levon.

"Who gave you that ring? Was it the Traitor?" Levon clenched his fists tightly. He did not expect Zelle and Vincenzo's affair to have reached the engagement level.

"Of course, my wealthy lover gave it to me as our proposal ring. What do you think, it's beautiful, isn't it?"

"How dare you! Take that ring off! I don't like seeing you wearing it!"

"No! This ring is precious to me! It's even more expensive than you are!"

The blue-eyed man was at a loss for words to express the sadness tearing at his heart.

Levon looked at Zelle with disappointment and anger. "Why did you betray me! I sacrificed so much for you!"

Their encounter began when Zelle was wandering in Washington, United States. Levon fed and watered her every day when he saw that she was starving. After a year, Levon declared his love for Zelle and decided to live together. However, Zelle quietly left their rundown apartment without permission after a month.

After Levon searched everywhere for her, he caught her entering a luxury apartment with another man. Without thinking, Levon went to Zelle's apartment unit when the man had already left in anticipation of a scene.

"Your sacrifices don't make me happy, Levon. You can't give me a decent life after we get married. I don't want my life to suffer after marriage with you. Isn't that realistic?"

"So, you betrayed me because of wealth?" Levon said fiercely. He felt like he was trapped in a nightmare. He didn't expect the woman he had adored for five years to become a demon.

"Money is essential to survive in this expensive world, Levon. That's why I chose Vincenzo as my future husband. I hope you understand."

"Zelle, wait!" Levon grabbed the girl's hand and held it tightly when Zelle was about to close the door.

"Please don't leave me, Darling! Because I love you so much! I would do anything to make you happy. I promise to become a successful man so that I can make you happy like you dreamed of! But, please be patient, give me a little more time to make it happen." Levon pleaded.

Zelle was the only reason he lived and survived in the world. He had never known parental love because he grew up in a rundown orphanage without schooling and luxuries.

"I'm sorry...." Zelle pulled her hand from Levon's grasp. "That's so impossible. It would probably take a lifetime for you to become a successful man. Women need certainty, and I'm getting old. I don't want to waste my time waiting for you, Levon."

Levon cried silently. His legs were so weak that he almost fainted as Zelle refused his plea.

"You'd better go. I don't want Vincenzo to see you in my apartment. I don't want my future husband to be angry."

Zelle closed the door, leaving Levon alone to stare at the door in despair. He looked down sadly, letting his tears spill over the floor. It was futile for Levon to beg or prostrate himself at Zelle's feet. That woman was already determined to leave him for another man.

'What did I do wrong? Why was my life never given happiness?' Levon cursed his fate.

Now, the feeling of love turned into hatred. He clenched his fists tightly and stared at the door vengefully.

'I swear I'll take my revenge on you when I become successful!'

The night is getting late.

Levon walked down the sidewalk with a blank stare. He didn't know where to go now. He seemed to have lost his purpose and zest for life. One day, fate robbed the brown-eyed man of everything precious, making him useless.

"Does a poor man not deserve true love?" Levon muttered softly, despairing. Since childhood, he had suffered until he was 22 years old. Fate didn't seem content to plague him with problems.

"What should I do now?"

Levon was frustrated that he had only been used as a temporary shelter for Zelle until he found his true happiness.

Levon accidentally stopped before a towering skyscraper that almost touched the sky, taller than any other building.

He stared blankly at the top of the building for a while without moving an inch. A crazy idea came to Levon's mind.

'I'm tired. Should I end it?' Levon deliberated silently. After all, no one wanted his presence anymore.

The building was a petroleum office owned by the Rikkard family, Vincenzo's father. Perhaps with his death, Zelle would regret it after discovering he died by suicide in his mistress's office.

The company held many sweet memories, as Levon's reason for working at Rikkard Corp was to pay for their upcoming wedding reception and living expenses after the wedding.

However, all his dreams were dashed now. There was no longer any reason for him to serve in that cursed company.

Levon entered the company building and took the fire escape instead of the elevator because he didn't want anyone to see him heading to the highest floor. This was because he didn't want anyone to intercept him to commit suicide, which might destroy the good name of the Rikkard and Zelle families.

Before going to the rooftop, he picked up a piece of paper and a pen from the cleaning service workers' locker and left. No one greeted her for being a lowly worker.

However, when he passed by a group of employees who were whispering, Levon stopped to eavesdrop. Their severe and astonished faces made his curiosity flare up.

'What are they talking about?

Levon hoped that Vincenzo and Zelle's affair had become so public that they would be ostracized, opposed, or scorned by everyone. Because that would make their wedding plans canceled.

It was possible that Levon would get a second chance to persuade Zelle to return to him.

Levon smiled a little as if he had found a glimmer of hope. Perhaps the Master of Destiny would give him a glimpse of happiness after suffering for so long.

"Poor Mr. Elenio!" One of the women made a concerned face.

"How can such a handsome man be mistreated by evil people!"

"It must have been a business rival who poisoned Mr. Elenio into a coma."

Levon was both surprised and disappointed. Apparently, they hadn't discussed the affair between Vincenzo and Zelle.

How could those two cursed humans hide their illicit relationship from the public or the media? Could it be that the crowd was either in favor of their relationship or did not want to get involved?

I don't know. Levon didn't know either. His chest was tight, like being stabbed by thousands of arrows.

He envied humans born into conglomerate families because they were always applauded and defended by everyone, even if they committed barbaric acts. A man like Vincenzo would quickly eliminate a poor man like him.

Levon left them and left. When he arrived at the rooftop, the wind blew so hard that his brown hair and shirt waved. He could see the beauty of Washington.

"It will all be over." Levon smiled sadly.
