Chapter Forty

Marcel shrugged in response to my request. "I will answer what I can," He said. "But to do so, I must know the contents of your dream."

With his expectant eyes on me, I quietly recounted what happened. I spoke in a hushed tone. Something in the way Marcel had spoken made it feel like the General shouldn't be privy to my dream. It felt as though it were a secret between just Marcel and me—a shared experience of sorts.

Once I finished explaining things, the scene of everything still vivid in my mind, Marcel thought quietly for a moment. His face was as serious as I'd seen it. At that moment, he truly looked like the King of the Fae.

When he spoke, his voice was hushed, reverent. "The Fates have great plans for you, Amelia. Just as I told you before." He turned to look at me, emotions I couldn't quite place flooding his eyes. "You are something truly special."
