THE BRIDGE BETWEEN REALMS.

Ever since she opened her eye to the world, she had been given one rule she must live by, which is to be perfect, without a single flaw and if she does not keep to this rule, she would face dire consequences. Genevieve the rightful heiress to Phantasia Inc. one of the biggest and globally dominating companies in the world has been forced to live by this rule since birth but what happens when she meets the mysterious and cold-hearted Dane and they become rivals? ...... "What is love?". He asked with phlegmatic modulation and aspect as he glanced away from me. I couldn't answer his question immediately because I never expect such a question from him. " Love is a strong feeling of genuine affection which makes one value another person's interest and wellbeing as a top priority over their own regardless of circumstance". I replied when I finally regained my composure. "Where does it come from?". " It...it comes from the brain but it will always remain a matter of the heart". I replied almost hesitantly. Unexpectedly he turned toward me, staring straight into my eye, still with an emotionless profile. "If I choose to open your head or heart in search of this love...... would I find it". He inquired boldly. I felt the chills run down my spine, for a moment I was frightened and I couldn't breathe, I held my breath, it was until he gazed away from me that I could finally exhale. l thought of taking his words for humor to put me at ease but I couldn't shake off the lethal feeling I got from his voice and overall aspect he was never the kind of person to smile, to say he was joking would be crazy. " Love is an emotion just like pain and hate it can't be seen". There was silence between us for a while until he broke the silence. "Something that can't be seen or grasped physically does not exist.........if one has lived long enough they'll realize that just like pain and hate, love is a deception people have to fill up their vanity because in the end that is all they can ever do".

What honor.

"I would have his body cremated."

Genevieve staggered backward at her father's words with one of her hands placed on her head and her gaze lowered.

"I don't think the council would be pleased with the idea."

Genevieve heard a man's voice which seems familiar, Sir Alexander she thought.

"It is the only way, the council may not take a liking to my decision but it would be done with or without their consent."Vincenzo declared in a voice that confirmed that his decision was final and he wasn't going back on it.

Genevieve tried to wrap her head around the reason behind her father's decision to have her brother's body cremated but no matter how hard she tried nothing could come to her mind.

She was suddenly jerked from her thoughts by a voice.

" My lady.....you shouldn't be here the master had requested that the second floor to the west wing be vacated for the time being as he doesn't want to be disturbed."

Genevieve moved her gaze backward and noticed a buff man outfitted in a bodyguard's clothing standing behind her, by the tone of his voice she could tell that he was nervous.

It was the head guard, Luke.

Sweat trickled down the guard's face, the guards on duty had become inefficient in carryout their duties he deduced internally, he had been on his way to speak to the Master on the recent activities of the soldiers residing in the villa as of the moment but that didn't mean he wasn't aware of the instruction the master had given but it seemed like the young guards had become tardy and were taking the position lightly

He figured something of such could happen as the entrance to the second floor wasn't even guarded, Seeing the young miss in front of him, only confirmed his suspicions.

Vincenzo's eyebrows furrowed on hearing voices outside his office. He had instructed the guards to leave the entrance to the second floor and station themselves at the exit but here he was, learning that someone had defied his command.

Perhaps it had been a while since he educated his employees, they need to know their place, all he requires is one scapegoat or two.

"I would be taking my leave now." Alexander narrowed his eye as he gazed backward in irritation."I believe you have apparent matters to attend to."

"Indeed," Vincenzo muttered while gritting his teeth with his gaze fixed on the door.

Alexander opened the door only to see the young miss of the Corleone house and a buff-looking man standing outside the office.

"Sir" The guard uttered while lowering his head.

Alexander moved his eye from the man and back to the young miss.

Genevieve wasn't sure how to take the new information she had just acquired but decided to shove it to the side, for the time being, she was already outside her father's office, and nothing could stop her from speaking to him about it.

'"Good morning sir Alexander." Genevieve greeted with a slight bow.

"Good morning, my lady." He greeted back while returning the bow."I wasn't expecting the young lady here at least not at this time, do accept my condolences, I'm sorry for your loss."

"Thank you, I needed to speak to my father" Genevieve replied whilst clenching her first slightly. She was already tired of people's attempts to console her after the death of her brother, she knew they were just being polite but every time she was told those words it just reminded her of her brother's death, it was not like she could forget but she didn't want to be thinking about it every single minute, as she could never accept the reality.

With that, Alexander walked away.

"Luke" Vincenzo called from inside the office.

On hearing her father's voice a shiver ran down her spine but she took in a deep breath and exhaled.

"Escort my daughter to her room."Came his blank voice.

Sweat rolled down her face on hearing her father, she moved her gaze to him, he was standing with his back facing them while looking outside the window. She was sure he had heard her when she said she needed to speak to him.

Luke attempted to speak to her whilst moving towards her but she wasn't having any of it. She moved past him and walked into the office.

" Father... I would like to speak to you." Genevieve clenched her fist firmly with her nails digging just into her palm. She summoned all the courage she had she could muster while slowly stepping further into the office.

"Genevieve, I do not have the luxury of time, leave now" He warned sternly with both of his hands behind his back.

"Father, please... I will only be taking a few minutes of your time" Genevieve pleaded, She could give up now not after what she heard." Please, father."

With his fist gripped hard, Vincenzo ordered in between scrunched teeth."Luke leave us."

Luke bowed and exited the room after which he closed the door, he walked some meters away from the office but still stood within hearing range, of the event of being called by his master.

"Speak," Vincenzo ordered, his voice calm, but she knew better.

Genevieve gulped slowly.

"Father" she began but paused for a moment before she continued, not sure how to bring up the conversation." I overheard your discussion with sir Alexander" She uttered in dread but quickly added"It wasn't my intention...but I just wanted to know if it is true...are you planning on having Rome's body cremated?"

Vincenzo didn't reply instantly, he remained silent while wondering how much she had heard. This kept Genevieve in an anxious state.

"Yes, it is just as you heard" Vincenzo replied after a while.

Her suspicions had been right, after all, they were speaking of her brother.

"But father it's against tradition, Rome is an honorary member of the family, this could reflex badly on his image, he should be commemorated by being laid to rest alongside the..."

"Silence!" Vincenzo reprimanded, taking Genevive by surprise which caused her to flinch a little." What honor do you speak of? what is honorary about a man dying so deplorably in battle? Tsk! foolish child".

Vincenzo turned around meeting her gaze whilst taking some steps towards her"For generations to generations, the Corleone have always been the best with none to contend with them, producing leaders worthy of the name in which they bear" He paused for a moment gazing at her in disgust."And if one cannot bear such legacy, they are better off dead."

Her knees became weak at his words, she felt herself being unable to breathe for a moment and she gasped for air while falling to the ground. She clenched her fist firmly, bringing them to her chest.

Her brother had only left for the military because of her father, though everyone believes it was her brother's choice she knew better, it was never his decision to leave her side, he was only fulfilling their father's wishes. She didn't know when it started but the tear was already falling from her eye.

Vincenzo came to stand in front his gaze fixed her in, portraying a disapproving expression.

"I had put some faith in your brother, no, it would be wrong if I said I didn't have my doubts, but now I realize a disappointment would always remain a disappointment."

"H..How could you speak about him that way? like he means nothing to you"Genevieve asked, her voice coming out as barely a whisper.

"That is because he means nothing to me Genevieve, when something shows signs of being inadequate, it is only right that you discard of it, as you know I do not keep inferior things." Vincenzo stated in a cold voice, he paused for a moment, moving his gaze to the door and back to Genevieve."But he saved me the stress by doing it himself."

"But he is your son" Genevieve whispered."Father please" Genevieve lifted her head to gaze at him, her eye filled with tears threatening to fall to her cheeks."I have never asked you for anything as your daughter, but I would like to make a request today...please father let Rome retain his honor."

"I have made my decision, and I am not going back" Vincenzo declared in finality, with that he turned away from her in an attempt to walk towards his seat.

"Father, please," Genevieve begged while rushing towards her father and holding him by the leg." I will do anything and be anything you want me to be, just, please let Rome retain his honor as a Corleone, I'm begging you."

SLAP!

The room becomes silent, she held the part of her face that had just been whacked by her father, she shouldn't be so affected by it as it wasn't the first time he had slapped her but for some reason she was.

It was clear to her now, there was nothing she could say or do to change her father's mind, she should have known better when made a decision he stood by it.

"Luke."

She heard him call, she kept her gaze lowered but she could still hear the sound his shoes made against the floor as he walked towards his seat.

Like rushed into the room at his master's call standing a few meters behind Genevieve.

"Take the useless thing and lock her up, no food, no water" Vincenzo ordered with fixed on the papers on his desk."Perhaps it would help her learn discipline and reflex on her actions."
