"You know I can't eat more than that," Jillian said. She did not attempt to collect the pizza from him.
"I have told you countless times that you don't need to look skinny or have a perfect figure…"
"I think it's almost time for your favourite show. Let me change it to the channel now," Jillian cut in abruptly.
She reached out her right hand and carried the remote control from where it lay on the centre table.
Jillian's attitude made Oliver unable to pursue the issue anymore.
Back at Brayden's home, he finally succeeded at putting Marley and Monalisa to sleep after he read and sang them lullabies for over an hour.
"Fuck, that is goddamn exhausting!" Brayden cursed loudly. He sprawled on the bed like someone who hadn't rested for a week.
After the tiresome day, Brayden had no difficulties falling asleep. In fact, he slept like a log of wood the entire night.
The next morning, the sound of the alarm at his side table woke him up. He struggled to stand up but his heavy eyes wouldn't let him.
After battling with what his body and mind wanted for a few minutes, Brayden crawled out of bed. Without being told he knew what the consequences of waking up late would be.
He would be the luckiest man on Earth if the girls didn't set the entire building ablaze.
Fortunately for Brayden, Marley and Monalisa didn't wake up until he had finished cooking and served the food.
Inside the girls' room whose interior was a combination of white and pink, Brayden stood at the edge of the pink sheet bed just beside where Monalisa lay.
"Lisa, Marl, it's time to wake up now," Brayden informed. He took turns touching each girl's face.
He repeated the same thing thrice but the two girls didn't move any part of their body.
At that moment Brayden realised that the girls weren't really asleep but were ignoring him because he didn't keep his promise.
For a moment he almost shouted at the girls for deliberately making things hard for him. He calmed his nerves by exhaling deeply and chanting 'Brayden COOL OFF, THEY ARE JUST KIDS'.
He tried again but the result remained the same. Frustrated, Brayden turned to leave, only for a brilliant idea to pop into his mind.
"Actually, your mom called to say she was coming back…"
"Really?" An excited Monalisa sprang up and opened her eyes, forgetting that she was supposed to be fast asleep.
"That is a lie! Grandpa said Mommy left us because she didn't want us anymore. She will not come back," Marley muttered sadly.
Brayden hurried to help her up when he noticed how hard she struggled to sit up because of her injured leg and arm.
"That is not true," Monalisa rebuked in anger. "Mommy promised yesterday that she would come back. She said that…"
"But she never came, did she?" Marley interrupted.
Right at that minute a fight ensued between the two girls.
In the process of stopping Monalisa from hurting her injured sister, the provoked little girl bites his right arm. And when Brayden tried to scold her, both of them burst out crying as if they had planned everything together.
"I am so fucking done with this," Brayden yelled. He spun and made his way towards the white door but their increasing cries made him unable to walk out of the door.
No matter how naughty Marley and Monalisa were, they were still his brother's precious kids; the girls he did everything possible to protect and pampered when he was alive.
He might not be into having kids of his own but he wasn't that heartless after all.
A few minutes later, Brayden was in the middle of bathing the girls when he overheard the doorbell ringing.
"Marl, Lisa, hold on a bit while Uncle checks out who is at the door. I will be back soon," Brayden instructed, feeling slightly reluctant to leave the girls by themselves.
At the front door, immediately Brayden reached out his hand and pulled the grey door open, an excited lady shoved him against the wall and kissed him.
Brayden circled his wet hands around the lady's slender waist. With his hand on her waist, he spun her, causing her to take over his position.
With her hands pinned against the blue wall, he devoured her mouth like she was the delicacy he had been yearning for.
"It's as if I knew you missed me already. Thank goodness I decided to clear off my weekend schedule to be with you," The excited lady with blonde long hair that stopped on her waist grinned.
Frantically she unbuttoned his shirt. Just when she was about to undo the fourth button Brayden recalled that he lived with the girls and was no longer alone.
"That is enough," Brayden declared and pulled away from her.
"You look starved. From all indications, it is obvious you want this so why are you stopping me huh?" She grumbled, moved closer and tried to kiss him again.
"Summer, just as I have said we can't do that here and I wasn't kidding when I made that statement," Brayden warned sternly, looking all serious and cold.
"But why not?" The blonde lady insisted he gave a reason for his actions.
"Don't tell me you are fed up with me already?" Summer accused.
"When you stated your conditions for us to be in a relationship, I was cool with other requirements except one but I couldn't say anything back then because I wanted you so badly," She confessed. She stomped into the living room, flung her red purse on the grey sofa and leaned against the one behind her.
"Yes, I like you a lot but having a baby for you is out of the question due to my job that was why I easily agreed when you said you would immediately break up with me if I talked about marriage or getting pregnant," She said, let go of the grey sofa's arm and move towards where he stood.
"I wanted to tell you that I was a clingy woman. The type who loves to call her man first without waiting for his call instead. Although we can't publicly display our love due to the impact it would have on my career, I want to feel that you are mine when we are in an enclosed space like this," Summer ranted about how she truly felt without caring about maintaining her high and mighty image.
"Summer…"
"That's what I wanted to tell you after you told me that you disliked clingy women. You are the one who hinted for me to come over through your phone call yesterday that is why I am here. So, I don't understand the reason you are treating me coldly. Are you perhaps mad because I didn't drop by last night?" Summer guessed.
She raised her hands and wrapped them around Brayden's neck before he could avoid them.
"If that is what you are upset about I can always make it up to you today and tonight. We can make love the entire day and I promise I won't stop you or try to preserve my strength for tomorrow's magazine cover shoot. Forgive me hmm?" Summer coaxed.
She inched closer, attempting to kiss him.
"I don't remember saying anything that hinted I wanted you to drop…" The scream of a little girl forced Brayden to stop talking.
"Damn it! I forgot I left them alone in there," Brayden murmured. He raced towards Marley and Monalisa's room.
"Don't tell me, he got another woman for himself just because I wasn't there to warm his bed for the night?" Summer muttered dumbfounded at what she witnessed.
Curious to know who took over her place in Brayden's life, she followed the direction he went.
The scene she met left her astounded and relieved at the same time.
"President Ethan's kids!" Summer exclaimed with widened eyes.
"Thank goodness you are here!" Brayden let out a sigh of relief as soon as he raised his head and saw Summer standing in front of the bathroom door.
"Marl and Lisa aren't really fond of me bathing them so how about you help me out?" Brayden suggested.
"Me?" Summer yelled, pointing her index finger at herself. She tilted her head and looked to the right then to her left thinking that maybe there was someone else beside her.
"There is only you here. Who else would I have been talking to if not you?" Brayden replied irritatedly.
"But I am not good with kids…"
"Neither am I but I am doing pretty decent after spending just two nights alone with them," Brayden said sarcastically.
Although Summer acted as if she would not set foot into Marley and Monalisa's bathroom, it took Brayden only a few words to convince her to help him.
In the kitchen, Brayden hurried to heat the food so it would still be warm when the kids finished dressing up.
ARRGGHH*
Summer's painful scream coming from the girls' room made him halt everything and run to check what happened.
