6. Final Touches

Alan looked at the character sheet that the system was displaying in front of his face he saw that the name was filled in and he just stared at it. "Is it to late to make a few changes to this?"

The system made a cursor appear on the edge of the paper. "Alan what exacting do you want to change?"

"Oh well it has my current name in that block and I am not sure that it is the name that I want to take with me into this next life. Although I am not sure what name I want to have."

"Actually that is not a bad idea. This is a new start so a new name is a great idea."

"The problem is and always has been I have a horrible time picking names. I always asked someone to pick a random name and then used that one. Can we maybe go ahead with the items and I will think about while we are finishing up?"

"I have no issue with that. System please bring up the new table that we talked about." Without a sound percentile dice and a small chart popped up for him to see. "I adjusted the chart so that it fits our needs. You will roll a percentile with the options in thirds and one percent left over for the medium level item. The first third will be armor, the second third a weapon, and the last third will be a ring. If you hit the hundred we will do this again on the modified medium level chart."

"Just curious but way no minor wondrous items?"

"The magic haversack is already one of those."

"Did not even think about that. That makes perfect since." Alan picked up the dice and gave them a shake and roll. The dice finally stopped and Alan grinned from ear to ear, one hundred. He heard a ping and a notification popped up on the edge of the screen. <Luck of the Gods> passive skill that expands the percentage of success on chance rolls. Awarded to player by system for beating 'god' in game of chance. Alan looked across the table and he was not sure the being across from him saw the alert.

"Luck is with you today Alan. System bring up the next chart." The chart popped up and Alan saw that it was now split into quarters with wondrous taking the final quarter and other three staying in the same order. "As you can see wondrous items are available again at this level."

Alan gave him a smile and rolled the dice. An 80 popped up and suddenly the medium wondrous item list popped up. Alan rolled for the third time and a 94 popped up. He tried very hard not to smile. He was not positive about the item yet but he knew that last ten to fifteen items were worth well over 20,000 gold coins. He looked and saw that it was an item that he had no desire or use for.

"Great one this item is way OP for this level. How about we make a deal?"

The being shook his head with a smile. He knew that he was about to get taken for a ride. "What kind of deal would you like to make?"

"That item is worth almost 30k and honestly I have no use for it. So how about a +1 breastplate, a +1 steel shield, a +1 bastard sword, and a ring of sustenance. The armor and shield are about 2k the sword is another two and the ring is two and a half. Oh I also get to grab a bunch or mundane things and a warhorse with barding. Add in a thousand gold and I am coming in at about a third of the cost. I know that money is not an issue for you but still."

"That is a great deal but I feel that it is still not fair to you. I am all about balance. We can add a minor enchantment on the armor as well as the sword. You can pick the one for armor but have to roll the sword. A protective ring at +1 and I will pick you out some random minor potions. That is still well under the cost of the robe and you are getting a lot of stuff."

"I mean that is better for me so I would be a fool to turn it down." Two pings right after the other caught his attention. <Golden tongue> smooth talking comes so natural to you, you can sweet talk the gods themselves. +1 Cha and +1 CMS[1] +10 bonus on all CHA based skills. <Discerning eye> your dealings with a god and getting the better of him has given you an advantage over all mortals business men. All prices are lowered by 20% for you and the DC appraising an items is reduced by 10 on an unknown item and 15 on any type of item you can make.

Alan had never been a poker player but with all the willpower he could muster he did not want to show any changes on his face based on the surprise he felt. He took a deep breath and reached for the dice. "For the armor can I go with the low level spell resistance and I will roll for the sword." They system brought up the chart for weapon enchantments. "System can you please remove roll again twice option and make that one percent a keen."

"Go ahead system. If he got the roll again twice it could throw everything out of balance."

Alan gave the dice a shake and rolled them out of the table. They stopped moving and the table glowed highlighting the one he wanted more than the others. His sword was now keen and the threat range of critical damage doubled. <Luck of the Gods> skill activated. He wanted the keen more than the rest and it had affected his roll. He never imagined that his skill would have activated this early. Honestly he was hopeful to get what he wanted but anything except viscous which had backlash that was always a risk.

"Alan if I had not made the dice myself I would think you were playing with loaded ones. You really did get the better of me with that roll. So if you want to go ahead and add the mundane items off the chart they will be in your haversack when you open your eyes in the next world."

They system brought up the goods and services table out of the book and there were little boxes beside each item. Several of the items were grayed out where and there was no block beside them. He looked over the list and saw that some of the items that he expected to be missing were available. He assumed that the special items and kits would be missing but they were both there.

Alan went down the list and grabbed a couple of each of the major items that he might need along with a spare. He did not bother with a lot of things and only grabbed one tent since with his ring he would not need to sleep much. He made sure to grab a several of each type of tool, especially the pickaxe given the area he was going to. He also thought to grab parchment, ink, and a map case. A lot of times if someone went to an area with unexplored areas they could make a fortune mapping the area. Since he created the world for his books and this area was not heavily featured in the books slot of it was considered unexplored.

Alan moved to the special items and after some experimentation he found that he could get up to ten of each. He only grabbed two ever burning torches since they would never go out and they were expensive. Since the gold was not coming out of his funds he could make a fortune with this stuff but that was not his style. Making a map and selling it sure that was great but this felt a little like theft, if he got greedy.

Alan grabbed an alchemist kit since he knew that he was going to be doing that but he felt like he needed more. That was when he noticed that the masterwork tools had a little drop down menu. He clicked the button and saw all kinds of tools that a crafter or laborer would need. He examined a few of them and saw that he could get twice the product for the same amount of work. He grabbed two hammers, one for a blacksmith and one for a carpenter. He also grabbed an axe and a saw for a lumberjack. He was not sure about needing anything so but given his starting gold he would be able to afford it if he needed it.

Alan grabbed a few sets of clothes of varying styles to include some stuff that was better than average in case he had to meet someone important. He planned for just about any situation he could find himself in. He looked over the next list and asked a question of the system, 'can I get the meat in jerky form?' Suddenly another drop down arrow appeared and not only did the system give him more options for jerky but also different kinds of meat as well. Alan grabbed several of each, including the fish and added then added some ale and wine. He was not much of a drinker but they made great gifts. Once he added the saddlebags and food for the horse he put the pen down. As soon as he did the sheet disappeared.

"Well then Alan, the only thing left is to pick a name."

Alan picked up his pen and finished up his character sheet.
