Chapter fifty one

The next morning, Alex went to work, his mind still reeling from the events of the previous day. He couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt for not being able to protect Sophia from his family's cruelty.

As he sat at his desk, he couldn't focus on his work. His mind kept wandering back to Sophia and the hurtful words his family had hurled at her.

"I don't know why my family resents her so much," Alex said to himself. "I wonder what they do to her whenever I am not at home.

But that's not the problem. The problem is that Sophia would never speak of what they've done to her unless I catch my family in the act. I don't know what she is trying to achieve by doing that." 

"I mean, if she would just be honest with me about the way they treat her, then maybe I would be able to help her. But she would never tell. She claims that she doesn't want to come in between my family and me, and that's just very annoying.
