Chapter 7: Cruel Fate

We walked for about an hour but nothing changed. There were only lightyears upon lightyears of sand and nothing else.

"How long away is it?" Eris cried.

"Not long." I replied.

"WHAT! Do you know how long we've been walking for?!"

"Eris please be quiet. The journey's long enough."

"Can't we just teleport or something?" Eris asked.

I sighed with frustration before I answered her. I was a tolerant man and I didn't get angry quickly but this b***h really did test my patience.

"Well, Eris, the Devil's Tomb is on this hyperplanet and the atmosphere is densely packed with anti-magic. Not even me or Luther can use magic. If I ran at full speed I wouldn't be able to see properly because I would run faster than light and even at full speed it would take about a minute to reach the end."

"Why did I even come?" Eris mumbled to herself.

"Also when the Devil is resurrected-"

"WAIT WHAT?! Why do you want to resurrect the Devil? Isn't he some strong omnipotent being who would just destroy us?"

"If we resurrect him he wouldn't destroy us or existence as we know it. Well he couldn't anyways because he's not on the Primordial King's level."

"Is he stronger than you?"

"I wouldn't come close to his physical strength alone."

"He's insanely strong you know. He once beat several armies who were at least Apostle rank." Lambda said.

"That wasn't even his best feat." I added.

"You guys act as if you know him." Eris said.

We did know him. We knew each other since we were born. We trained with each other, fought together, bled together, and played together.

"You could say we're past acquaintances."

"Yeah." Lambda said.

It was clear that Lambda didn't like her time in Gehenna but she did like some of the memories we made. It wasn't pleasant but we became closer each day. Even if only a few people knew of my existence I still made some memories.

We walked for some time until the sand became grass. The grass wasn't green. The grass was instead purple with fungi growing on the dark trees which covered the horizon. Only a minute ago we were walking on the golden sand and now we were walking on grass that didn't even seem to be grass. The only thing that made it grass was the sound it made when you walked on it and the large bristle-type spikes that functioned like grass.

It was unexplainable how something seemed like something while it looked nothing like it is supposed to be.

"What the hell-"

A low growl stopped Eris from saying anything.

"Father."

"I know Luther."

We both knew what came.

"What is it, Lexus?"

"Lambda, it is something beyond our control. Brace yourselves for six trillion trillion Omni Class beasts."

"WE'RE GONNA DIE!"

"We're not." For as long as our eyes could see, all there were beasts with glowing red eyes in the darkness of the trees. "Acensio Nekroi."

With a single phrase, the beasts retreated.

"What did you do?" Eris asked.

"You shouldn't worry about that when I just saved your life." I replied.

I was beginning to think that I made the wrong choice by allowing Eris to come with me. All she had done this whole time was ask questions. I don't blame her for her curiosity but asking questions every five seconds really did light a fuse in me. I tolerated Eris and kept my calm.

We continued our journey through the purple grass without any more obstacles. If fate was kind that would be how it would go. Instead, fate brought us to a cerberus.

If I recalled correctly, Levantes hated cerberuses so why would he want one guarding his tomb?

There was no time for questions that I knew wouldn't be answered at this current moment and the current problem was this cerberus.

"Luther, kill it."

Luther snapped his fingers and the cerberus fell to the ground in slices.

We continued our journey but fate was cruel.

As we passed the severed cerberus, something happened. The cerberus's severed parts joined and reformed another cerberus. Only this time it was stronger. The cerberus's class would easily be High Complex Akyros class, on the brink of Arcane class; far stronger than any of us. This beast in front of us was probably the first Arcane class beast. A beast capable of surviving the Endless Ocean.

"LUTHER PROTECT THEM!" I yelled at the top of my lungs as the cerberus shot out beams of destruction from one of its heads.

I barely dodged the beam and Luther had thrown both Eris and Lambda into the trees.

"Father we cannot fight it."

"I know." It sounded helpless because it was. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't overpower this beast.

If only I had it.

My true power.

Only it was robbed from me by that cosmic being. I couldn't fight that as well as it stole my power and left less than a fraction of what it took.

"We can only run and defend." Luther said.

"Then do it to the best of your ability."

If running and defending against this beast was the only thing then we'll do it like our life is on the line. Even though three out of four of us have immortality this beast could negate it.

If it is truly a High Complex Akyros, then negating immortality would be easier than actually killing us.

We ran as fast as we could while Luther flew. Luther wasn't the same as us which is why he could fly.

We ran away from the cerberus as fast as we could but it was useless.

I felt a sensation through my whole body. It wasn't anything I had felt before. It was as if the atoms in my body vibrated and my kind went unconscious and my subconscious took over. Although it was only for a split second the feeling didn't remain in my mind for that long.

The feeling got to my head and caused me to collapse onto the ground.

"LEXUS!"

I heard Lambda's voice call out my name but I couldn't move.

My life flashed through my eyes as my body was being picked up. I was then thrown in the air but I tried to save myself but I couldn't. The screeching of the cerberus made blood drip from my eyes.

Was this life lived to its fullest? Did I have any regrets? Did I find any forms of happiness?

Questions ran through my mind as my body entered a mouth. Talon-like teeth sank into my body.

Why is there nothing saving me?

This can't be the end.

I still have things to do.

People to meet.

People to save.

There are still people that are waiting for me.

Levantes. Arthur. Pandora. Lilith.

I wonder how they are. I wonder when was the last time I saw them. I didn't even tell them.

Hemera. Mother.

You took care of me like a mother. I'll meet you later then. I'm coming.

B*****d Levantes. Didn't even keep his promise. You f*****g killed me.

A smile formed on my face as the teeth penetrated my heart.

Lambda.

If it wasn't for you I would've ended so many lives.

I guess this is how I atone for my sins. With death.

Levantes probably said the same thing.

I wanna live again.
