Chapter 3: Truly Knowing Nothing

No…" I said silently.

"Well there is a point where a being can see multiple outcomes of any given scenario however not all of the outcomes happen because only one of the outcomes is the right one." Levantes explained. "You may think that the future isn't set in stone however for beings such as yourself it is and your future is decided by certain powerful beings."

"What are you talking about, Levantes?" The woman known as Valentine asked. Levantes then looked at Valentine.

"All of our lives and choices are being manipulated by certain beings who almost no one knows about. You could deny it all you want but all of our futures are set in stone and there's nothing we can do about it. Powerful beings who call themselves "gods" sit in an eternal place transcending reality and dictate our choices and actions."

"How do you know this?" Valentine asked however Levantes dodged the question and explained more about the powerful beings.

"After the death of the first Archon King, a few individuals saw an opportunity to be in control and then found a way to maintain their power without there ever being a possibility of being overthrown."

"Levantes, what class are you now?" I asked.

"Class?" Levantes said confused as he stared at me. "Rena, once you learn what this world is and it works you will acknowledge how much you don't know."

"What do you plan to do then?" Valentine asked.

"I've read all of your minds and searched through all of your memories and unfortunately—"

"You can't just read someone's mind!" I yelled.

"I apologise Rena but I had no choice. I have no recollection of my memories so I had to get some sort of understanding with the memories of the people here however I wasn't able to read all of your memories."

"Are you saying something is limiting your abilities?" Valentine said.

"Yes, something is limiting my abilities. I can also sense that the man you call Socrates had given me some of his mana however I only sense only a small percentage of my own."

"I don't understand." I said. Again it had just slipped out of my mouth.

"The abilities I have are my own however the mana I am using is from Socrates. My body has adapted to it and is using it to its full potential however because it is not mine, I cannot use it completely and I would have to use magic as a last resort."

"So your abilities are being limited by something and your magic is being limited as well?" I said.

"Yes."

I actually understood something.

"So how do you plan to defeat these "godlike" beings?" Valentine asked.

We both looked at Levantes for the answer. If he was right about the beings and did have a plan to defeat them then surely something would go wrong because of how powerful those beings are.

There are many things which normal people do not know about and I was part of those people until now and I have a feeling that this would not be the end.

Levantes was much more powerful than I had thought. I initially had the idea that he was extremely powerful and gifted however I didn't expect him to be this powerful.

I felt that he had lied about losing his memories when we first met but now I don't know if he has or not. I will make it my goal to help Levantes recover his memories and also find out more about his past.

Now that I am intrigued to know what happened to Levantes and who he truly is no matter what happens.

"I know about the original plan you and that Socrates man had for me." Levantes confessed and then explained his plan. "I will go to that school and remain hidden until the timing is right for me to leave the school."

"What do you plan to do at the school?" Valentine asked. I was also curious to know what Levantes was planning however I also asked myself another question and before Levantes answered Valentine's question, my question slipped out of my mouth.

"Why do you plan to destroy them?"

Levantes and Valentine both looked at me as if I had said something wrong. Valentine then turned her head towards Levantes expecting an answer. Levantes didn't speak until a couple of minutes later.

"I want to recover my memories and remove the limits of my current power."

"What about after that?" I asked.

I had a feeling that I will be involved in this so if I was to fight alongside Levantes then I should know what his goal is and what he will do after he reaches it.

"I can't tell you now, Rena but I do know what I am doing."

Although Levantes didn't say anything powerful, it did make me want to believe him.

When I first met Levantes I felt that he wasn't as he had seemed to be however now I feel more safe. I feel as if I am being protected. I feel as if he is being honest with me.

"Child, how long until school starts?" Valentina asked as she looked towards me. Levantes also looked at me as they both expected an answer.

"Well there were two entrance exams; One of them was last week and the next one is in a few days." I replied. "The academy starts in a little over a week."

"That's fine." Levantes said calmly. He didn't seem to have the slightest of emotions on his face but I could tell he was confident he would pass. "Rena, have you already passed?"

"Yes I have."

"Then will you come with me to the next one?"

"Sure." I replied. I didn't have anything else to do and I was curious about how he would perform. After all, he did beat three powerful beings without any difficulty.

* * * * * *

"The coat suits you." I said to Levantes. Levantes smiled at me as he then complimented me.

"You also suit that dress. Aunt Valentina was right to have given you that."

I suddenly felt a warm feeling in my heart and I subconsciously averted my gaze from Levantes. I couldn't stop smiling no matter how hard I tried.

Levantes wore a long black tailcoat. The tailcoat had thin gold lines near the outer parts. The tailcoat also had gold buttons embroidered with different patterns and a black shirt underneath the tailcoat. He also wore a purple sapphire brooch under his Adam's apple which sat on a purple tie. He also wore a pair of black trousers which fitted him perfectly.

I wore a white dress embroidered with different patterns. I felt like a princess with the clothes I was wearing. I had spent my entire life in poverty and I felt that all of that will change now because of Levantes.

Valentina then came into the room. She was wearing the same dress as before however, it seemed more cleaner than before. It seemed to be glimmering in the light. She then sat down at the round table Levantes and I were sitting at.

"Quick question, Rena." Valentina called me.

"Yes?" I answered.

"Are your parents alive?"

The question was out of the blue but it somehow seemed natural to ask. Perhaps because of the situation we were in.

"My mother died when I was young and my father is a blacksmith." I replied.

"What is your father's name?" Levantes asked.

"Luke Alaister." I replied softly. I expected Levantes to have a natural expression because I'm sure he already knew who my father was from my memories however when I looked at Valentina's face, it was the exact opposite of what I hoped for.

"Luke?" Valentina whispered to herself. "He's…he's alive…?"

Valentina seemed to be shocked after learning my father was alive. I couldn't even recall a time when he was even in immediate danger.

"What do you mean?" I asked Valentina. She stared at my face as if I had said something wrong.

"My apologies, Miss Alaister. I didn't know who you was." She then turned her head towards Levantes. "Did you know?"

Levantes didn't reply instantly. He turned his head towards me then slowly turned it back towards Valentina.

"Her father's mana is extremely strong." Levantes explained. "I was only able to see blurred glimpses of her father."

"But that's not possible!" I yelled in disbelief. Their heads instantly cocked towards me. I then felt an overwhelming feeling which caused me to start sweating however it was cold sweat. "My father's mana-less."

"Mana-less?" Levantes repeated as if he had never heard of the term.

"It's a term given to people who do not have a mana core or are not able to use it. It's common in lower class people however it is rare amongst elite classes." Valentina explained.

"You were referring to someone here weren't you?" Levantes said as he stared at Valentina. "Rena's an elite class isn't she?"

It was a possibility that I was in an elite class because I hadn't known my mother well.

"It wasn't your mother, Miss Alaister." Valentina had read my mind which did enrage me however I wasn't able to stop it.

"It cannot have been my father—"

"That is where you are wrong. To think you don't know anything about your own family." Valentina sighed as if she was disappointed. "The Alaister family has been a powerful family for around 1,000 years now. Long story short, your father is a powerful elite and for some reason married a middle-class woman and settled in a small town and lived as a "mana-less" lower class."

"What about Levantes?" I asked. Now that I knew some part of my family's history, I wanted to know more about Levantes. Levantes also seemed intrigued to know about his family's history.

"Let's leave that story for another time." Valentina chuckled before she got out of her chair and tucked it under the table. She then walked towards the grand door which led to the hallway. "I'll let you kids have your alone time now."

Valentina then left, leaving only Levantes and me alone together.

"Stationary Class."

"Huh?" I blurted out of confusion.

"I thought you'd want to know what my power has been limited to." Levantes replied.

Now for some reason, Levantes didn't seem to be the same dangerous man who took down three powerful beings at the same time. It was a teenager just like me on the other end of the table.

"Levantes." I called. Levantes's head instantly turned towards me. "How did you become so strong?"

I watched as the eyes of the boy in front of me changed back to the eyes I saw when he came out of the chamber. The same dangerous eyes which looked like they could kill just by staring at a person. The same sharp look that felt like something was being pierced through my body.

"Are you alright?" I asked Levantes. His eyes changed back and then he nodded slightly at me before silently leaving the room.

Was it something I had said?

"I'm sure it was."

I suddenly heard a voice. I looked around the room to see no one there. It must've been some sort of telepathy then.

"Sort of." The voice spoke again.

"Who are you?" I asked firmly. I felt every atom in my body shiver in fear but I couldn't show them that I was scared.

"Rena Alaister, daughter of Luke Alaister, do not be alarmed. My name is Longwang and I have been connected to you for a reason unknown even to me." The voice answered softly.

"What are you?" I asked.

"I am a dragon and to be specific I am Longwang, the King of Dragons." The voice answered. "What is it you seek?"

"What do you mean?" I asked the voice.

"Well, we cannot be talking purely on a coincidence. My master was a demon who helped humans obtain what they seek so I am now asking you." The voice answered.

"Could you really give me what I want?"

"If it is within my power then I can."

"Tell me who Levantes truly is."
