The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

So much fear. I started to uncoil out of my deep slumber. I hadn't felt anything in a very long time. Lately I'd been feeling a lot of little things. All these years in a dark deep slumber.

Memories started flooding my mind. None of them my own. A boy named Wyatt. A boy named Ethan. Two others flashed through my mind, but I didn't have time to focus on the memory as I was pulled onto the soul scape.

The soul scape didn't really have a shape or color. It appeared the way you understood it. To me it appeared like a ruined valley. A smoking ruin of the valley I hatched in. It was sad that this was how I understood the soul scape.

A soul scape was a reflection of your own soul after all. I could see the red of my core rotating in the center of the soul scape. There was another soul tethered to my core. The other soul was tethered much more thickly to my core. I guess it wasn't my core anymore considering how thinly my soul was attached to the core.

I wasn't too worried about it. It was my intent to die when I cast that spell. I was only a fragment of a long dead dragon. I could see the other soul being stretched thin. A single red clawed hand that looked as if it were rotting clung to the poor soul, and yanked.

I rushed toward the foreign soul, and slashed at it with my own. I was slammed into a physical body. The memories of an entire life didn't pass me by anymore. Now I was filled with the memories of a young man named Wyatt. A runic circle around me shattered.

My eyes scanned the surroundings quickly. Coming to rest on some sort of lizard creature that looked as if it were trying to become a dragon. I found that funny. I couldn't help but laugh at the pathetic showing. My feminine laughter seemed to catch the creature in front of me off guard.

I slowly closed my eyes as I focused on the weak points in the gravity magic. Striking them with my own mana, and the spell released. Her wasted mana scattering into the environment around us. Drawing in the wisps of this world. I took my human form, and was free of the effects of the earth spell.

My long hair was nearly down to my knees, and the mana clothing the boy had tightened around my athletic frame so that none of the tender bits were showing. The long coat closed acrost my chest to cover my breasts, but I didn't want to alter it more then necessary. This wasn't my body anymore. Nor was it my clothing. I actually felt better in this form then in the very male body Wyatt usually possessed.

The look on her face when she saw my face was priceless.

"Regala?" her stunned voice reminded me of someone I knew.

"Fritoria?" I covered my mouth to stop a laugh as my hair braided itself, "How far you have fallen?"

I suddenly turned serious as I cast multiple spatial portals. Bringing all three of Wyatt's bonded to me. Using a large portion of the mana this body could store in the process. The stunned looks of his three bonded weren't all that surprising. Fritoria who was now known as the priestess of the lizardman snarled at the introduction of the three bonded.

I didn't have time to explain what was happening to them in words so instead I just relayed my memories to them. It was easy for me to show Ethan the memories since he had the strongest connection to Wyatt. The others required quite a bit more force. I ended up giving them a serious headache in the process. I could feel understanding bloom across the bond as they each processed the memory at their own pace.

"You always believed that bonded were worthless," I strode toward her as she tried to lash out with the earth.

My own mana collided with hers. Stopping her spell from forming with a casual wave of my hand. Savannah was impressed.

"Usually you would be right," I smirked as my mana gathered, "Humans are far weaker then dragons. What use could they possibly have to beings such as us?"

I destroyed another spell before it could form. I couldn't attack with this method of spell breaking, but I could force her into a physical fight.

{This spell will hurt all of you,} I spoke to all the bonded at once, {I can promise that you will recover. You will understand what the spell was for after the pain ends.}

Savannah looked like she wanted to argue, but I had already started casting the spell.

"I can show you the true power of a bond," I smiled, "Resonance."

My mana circulated through all three of the bonded, and back to me. The mana I sent to them was amplified, and a pulse of pain went through my own body. My mind throbbed with pain as the pain from the others came back to me as well. My body reverted to dragon form, and started to swell. Ethan was transforming the fastest of the three as his body started to look more like that of a dragon kin.

The spell was working exactly the way it was meant to. Temporarily turning the bonded into half dragons. Amplifying my own strength in the process. Granting me the benefits of having three dragon kin without actually having them bound to my soul. Adding their strength, and ability to my own.

Ethan was the first to complete his transformation. His blue scales bristled as he flared his new wings. Savannah was about halfway through the transformation, and Jax had barely begun. The spell might end before he became useful. The sheer amount of magic power coursing through the four of us had killed all the nearby wisps.
