Failure

Arthur gazes at Theodore with a perplexed expression. Despite his inner gut feeling to trust the man, his conscious mind is hesitant to believe anything that could come from such a vile-mouthed person. After all, Theodore had kidnapped, shouted, threatened, and hurled derogatory insults towards Savúl. Why should Arthur even consider trusting him?

Arthur clears his throat and speaks up. "In that case, we should leave now. Perhaps you can fix whatever is happening in your weird happenstance. Then we can try this again," Arthur says hesitantly, being careful as from what he has seen, the man is quite unstable and might attack.

Theodore let out a rough laugh and said, 'Yer were never guid at lyin', Arthy. Nau go, I'll find ye once I ken hou tae fix ye. Jist mak' sure ye dinnae get intae ony moir trouble, aye?' He spoke with genuine sadness and hurt. Theodore was also worried about what the orange-eyed teenager might get up to."

Arthur's heart sinks a little at the genuine words, but he doesn't dwell on them. Instead, he picks up Savúl and heads out the door. As he steps outside, he notices someone sitting not too far away from them. He quickly jumps behind cover just past the side of the house, and checks around the other side of the corner.

There, he spots a stunning woman with red and orange hair woven neatly together into a beautiful fiery array, her hair like a blazing sun. His heart dwells when he sees her, but he forces his orange eyes to tear away from the beauty, moving through the forest with quick and efficient steps. Suddenly, he feels a jolt from the body on his shoulder.

Arthur felt Savúl's weight on his shoulder as she suddenly cursed and coughed, her breath raspy and strained. He patted her twice on the back and asked, "You good, Savúl?" Her curses continued as she shook herself off his shoulder, her face turning red with embarrassment.

"I'm fine! Are you, you know... Okay?" she said, her voice unexpectedly shy, her breath still wheezing.

Arthur couldn't help but chuckle at how quickly her demeanor had changed. "I'm good, Savúl. Thanks for asking." He paused for a moment before adding, "But maybe we should get you some water or something to help with that cough."

Arthur and Savúl had been walking for what seemed like hours. The sun had long since set, leaving the world shrouded in darkness. The only light came from the moon, which cast eerie shadows across the landscape. Arthur and Savúl were heading towards a familiar place, a large wooden mansion that Arthur had visited many times before. The mansion had a warm and inviting feel to it, with gold and red accents that added a touch of elegance, the colors glinting in the moonlight.

The smooth basalt covering the top of the mansion served as a beautiful roof, making the place feel even cozier. As they approached the entrance, Arthur felt a sense of comfort wash over him, knowing that they were about to enter a place of safety and familiarity. Savúl, however, did not share the same sentiment, and they both walked towards the entrance with a mixture of ease and unease.

However, as Arthur approached the entrance of the mansion, he felt a foreboding feeling creep into his stomach. He placed his hand on the massive door, which now seemed to render him insignificant, the wood cold and hard under his palm. His hair stood on end as he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Whatever happens in there, Arthur, I've got your back," her voice said comfortingly, her breath warm on his neck.

Arthur, filled with courage, grabbed the door handle and pushed it with all his might, finally entering the hall. However, instead of the grand feast hall he had expected, he found a room with just a single candle lit in front of a large man.

The man's orange eyes shone with disappointment, the candlelight casting deep shadows on his face. "Come here, Arthur," Bill said in an authoritative voice, his words echoing through the silent room. Arthur's body moved on its own, and he found himself standing before Bill, trembling seriously. His legs felt like jelly.

Arthur's heart raced with fear as he stood before Bill, his boss and leader that he worked for. Bill's face was stern, his eyes piercing as he poured himself a heavy glass of whiskey, which he slowly gulped down, the sound echoing in the silent room like a warning sign.

"You have failed me, Arthur," Bill said in a low voice, his disappointment palpable. Arthur felt his stomach drop as he realized the gravity of his mistake.

"You know what we do to failures, right?" Bill continued, his voice chilly as he stood up, towering over Arthur. The fear inside Arthur grew, and he unconsciously used an ability, his senses heightened by his fear.

Checking stats...

----

Arthur knew he couldn't match Bill's incredible stats before, but after actually seeing them, a cold shiver ran down his spine. He felt helpless and incapable of stopping the man before him. It was as if he was fighting the final boss in the start of a game. His heart beats fast and his palms are all sweaty.

"N-No, I don't know... What do we do with failures Bill?" Arthur stammered, his voice shaking even more than his body. He tried to move, but an insurmountable pressure sat upon him, making it impossible for him to even lift a finger. He could feel the weight of the room pressing on him, and it made him feel suffocated.

"In most cases, I would suggest death," Bill said uncaringly, his gaze fixed on the whiskey glass in his hand. Suddenly, he crushed the glass in his embrace, causing it to shatter into tiny pieces, and Arthur felt a jolt of fear run through him.

"But you, you are special, Arthur," Bill said, his voice slightly cynical. "I will only put you in the dungeon for half a year, and then you will be free... Do you understand, Arthur?" The words hit Arthur like a ton of bricks, and he froze in both fear and injustice.

"Half a year...?" he whispered, feeling like he had been given a life sentence. The air in the room was thick with tension and Arthur could feel his heart beating in his throat.
