Rowan tried not to look at him too much. She was terrified he would see the pain and sadness in her eyes. Fyn and Cass’s question had reminded her of how much she had to hide from them; and how easy it would be to inadvertently tell them too much.
It was too easy to put them at risk because she felt comfortable and safe with them. But if the man with the black, soulless eyes was half as scary as she thought he was, then there was no way that Fyn and Cass would be safe.
Just the thought made her shiver with abject fear. Rowan cared deeply for Fyn, and his family was just an extension of that.
She silently promised herself that, when she got home, she would find someone to help her take down Charles's operation.
This NEEDED to end quickly.
