First Mission and Replaced?

Marcus was delighted to hear that he had something for free and quickly thought 'yes' in his mind. The system acknowledged his request and a large rose-gold coloured box appeared in place of the blue window.

He looked around quickly to check if the others could see the box, but then he realised he was by himself so he couldn't check anyway. He shook his head and tapped on the box lid, it opened with a large poof of fake smoke.

In its place was a large wheel like you'd see on a game show with lots of different colours in each segment.

'What's the point in opening the chest if I have to spin the wheel as well?' He thought to himself, unexpectedly he got an answer at that exact time.

[Congratulations you have won 3 Special grade spin tickets! Good luck]

Marcus smiled and quickly spun the wheel in front of him.

The wheel turned around and around, eventually stopping on an orange space. A screen popped up in front of him with the sound of a party blower going off in his head.

[Congratulations you have won the Unique grade skill [Comprehension]. [Comprehension: Passive - Allows the user to become able to comprehend anything be it an unknown language, a complex mathematical equation or even another person's emotions. Subskill - Photographic memory - Allows the user to remember anything and everything, used to supplement the vast amount of knowledge learned through [Comprehension].][Congratulations you have won the Unique grade skill [Comprehension].

Suddenly a vast flood of information entered Marcus mind causing him to instantly black out.

When he awoke he was still lying on his bed, he grabbed and held his head before realising that everything looked a little different now. It was as if he was looking at everything through a new pair of eyes and yet he could somehow understand everything about his room. He knew the exact measurements of his room, he could just tell exactly what it was by looking. It was an incredible feeling, it made him feel in control of everything.

'System' he asked in his mind.

[Yes Host] The feminine voice of the system replied at the back of his head.

'I'd like to use my other tickets please' he said as a satisfied smile plastered his face.

The wheel appeared again and Marcus quickly spun it like before. He was both excited and afraid as he wanted to get more cool abilities, but the pain he felt from receiving the first one still played in his mind.

The wheel slowly stopped on a purple space this time and another window popped up.

Marcus winced slightly as he read its contents but the wince disappeared once he did.

[Congratulations you have won 50 Free Status Points]

'Well that's cool. I just assumed you could only get skills from here, I'm sure they'll give me a good head start' he thought before spinning the wheel for the last time.

It spun and spun until it stopped on another orange space.

Marcus winced a little as he read the description.

[Congratulations you have won the Unique grade skill [Breakdown]. [Breakdown: Active - Cost : Nothing - Allows the user to break anything down into usable parts. Subskill - Scrap - Allows the user to discard any items obtained through [Breakdown] for a proportionate number of System Points.]

All Marcus could think right now was 'Wow'. This skill had a lot of potential, especially since he would be going to the ground soon. There were plenty of raw materials on the ground and if he could break them down into usable items then it would be an awesome advantage.

Just as he was about to try out his new skill he realised that no pain had come from obtaining it so he asked the system about it.

[The pain that Host received from receiving your first skill was due to it being a mentally taxing passive skill. Host's mental faculties weren't able to hold such information so the system had to mould them to fit the new skill.]

'Ok, makes sense. But make sure to warn me before anything like that happens again' Marcus said before reaching for a book next to his pillow.

[Yes Host.] The system replied before going quiet.

Marcus flicked through the large book he had found next to his bed. He knew what was in it because of the memories in his new head but he read through it anyway to try and refresh himself. Inside the book were lots of handwritten notes and labelled diagrams as well as passages describing exactly how to build lots of different tools and machines.

It belonged to this body's engineer father who had a great interest in the machines used on the ground before the war. 'This will become very useful' he thought as he finished reading the first half of the book.

The second half was written in a different handwriting, his own.

It was the journal of the Marcus Sloan who had lived in this body before him. It held detailed accounts of things that the new Marcus already knew, he felt as if he had already lived them.

The family game nights with him and his mom and dad, the school projects his dad had helped him with, his mom dying from a virus outbreak, his dad getting floated for using precious resources in his projects, him getting put in the Lockup for going on an illegal spacewalk, the pretty girl next door who loved him dearly.

'Wait a minute' Marcus thought while his brain got into gear 'Holy shit, I replaced Finn!'
